RE: Tethered XRB LAMA newbie setup question

I forgot to mention, with small model helicopters, including the XRB,
they often seem to want to suddenly 'jump' somewhere, especially
when you first fly them.
With the XRB, I could slow down...

RE: Tethered XRB LAMA newbie setup question

I forgot to mention: if you have not done so yet, it would be good to check the
center of gravity (CG) on your XRB.
My memory is that generally for helicopters:
Going along the left to right...

RE: Tethered XRB LAMA newbie setup question

Mentioned the one or two feet because when I am flying I will also easily
get altitude drifting up or down
of one foot or more (slight breezes, the heating or AC system, etc.).

As far as...

RE: Tethered XRB LAMA newbie setup question

The following may or may not apply:
- When I take-off, there will be a tendency to move backwards due to the pull of the tether.
So initially, I push forward a little. This tendency decreases...

RE: Tethered XRB LAMA newbie setup question

2 places to try to get support:

1. email to [email protected] - they are the US distributors of Hirobo products and have answered my questions in the past

2. threads on various...

RE: Tethered XRB LAMA newbie setup question

I believe that you can buy a copy of the manual (listed as a part) from a Hirobo dealer.

The E-Flite Blade CX is a similar type of helicopter, and its manual
is readily available on the web....

RE: Tethered XRB LAMA newbie setup question

That web-site is good.
Click on 'X.R.B. lama' (on the left) and then
click on 'X.R.B adjustment TIPS'

and you will get to some web pages that tell you how to adjust things.

RE: Hirobo XRB PICS!!! and build info.

Yes. One of the main features of this helicopter (and most of the other co-axial model helicopters) is a flybar
that tries to move the pitch of the upper blades so as to reduce any tilting of the...

RE: Hirobo XRB PICS!!! and build info.

Stiffer blades will probably help: I heard of using packing tape or glue to the blades to stiffen the blades,
and carbon fiber blades should be a lot stiffer (all mentioned somewhere earlier in...

RE: Hirobo XRB PICS!!! and build info.

Still flying it (well not too recently, but will be soon), the tethered version that is.
Yes, there are less expensive versions out there, but I prefer the XRB over the Lama 2.
When properly...

RE: E-SKY LAMA 2 THREAD

My guess:
a. the 4-in-1 unit is bad
b. the top motor runs, but it is bad in the sense that connecting the 4-in-1 to it will burn out the section of the 4-in-1 that it connects to

RE: E-SKY LAMA 2 THREAD

With the rudder stick centered, I can tell you from experience that as you increase throttle, both the top and bottom rotors should spin.
My guess is that either your top rotor motor is bad or the...

RE: E-SKY LAMA 2 THREAD

The red led can also happen
1. if you did not have the throttle at the lowest setting when the receiver turned-on
2. if the throttle is at the highest setting

By the way, in case you have...

RE: E-SKY LAMA 2 THREAD

Be careful. I have been told that the newer Lama 3 4in1's are NOT compatible with the older Lama 3 4in1's (more precisely, not compatible with the older Lama 3 transmitters).
So the newer Lama 3...

RE: Axe head speed

I agree, the kV rating is hard to come-by on brushed motors.
I found some data to estimate the kV for GWS brushed motors at:

RE: Axe head speed

I think the fan sounds okay.
One thing to keep in mind is that some of those ratings are propeller/rotor dependent: it may be okay with one propeller,
but another propeller may cause it to draw...

RE: Axe head speed

The 3-in-1 probably does need the throttle input to function correctly: it mixes the throttle with the gyro to get the output for the rudder motor.

As for that direct drive tail motor, the...

RE: Is electric r/c worth it?

Have you tried using those batteries several times?
I have been told that
1. it takes several charge/discharge cycles before the batteries will be at maximum performance
2. for the NiMH...

RE: Hirobo XRB PICS!!! and build info.

I forgot to mention:
as far as I know, the red/green light only indicates voltage balance (or lack of) between the 2 motors.
If as the XRB warms up, one motor gets stronger or weaker than the...

RE: Hirobo XRB PICS!!! and build info.

Several possibilites (most mentioned somewhere in the XRB manual):

1. As you fly, the gyro will heat-up and drift (my XRB tends to start with a green light and shift to a red light as it...

RE: AXE CP Battery Problem?

I have heard the following:

1. NiMH batteries take several charge/discharge cycles (3 to 15?) before they are at their best.

2. The first charge, one should try a long trickle type charge...

RE: Official Helimax Axe CP Thread.

One possibility is this is done on purpose because of something called "gyroscopic precession" (mispelled, I am sure):
the idea is that if you apply a force on a rotating object, it does not react...

RE: Official Helimax Axe CP Thread.

You may need to meter the battery when it is under load.
I have had batteries (lipos and NiMHs) that measured quite high under no-load, and as soon as I put a heavy load on it, the voltage drops...

RE: Official Helimax Axe CP Thread.

On the Axe CP the rudder is controlled by a tail motor rather than a servo.
The Axe CP's 3 servos control the collective and cyclic pitch of the main rotor.
