RE: 25xl vs 25xls

We don't fly B class or with cans around here, just some 2548. In the air, my hottest .25FX's (some of which did more than 19k on can back when I did fly B class) are putting out about the same as...

RE: 25xl vs 25xls

They are totally different engines, I haven't actually checked the parts numbers to see what might be common between them, but I do have both engines. They look nothing alike, and I'd be surprised...

RE: New to planes and have a few radio questions

Btw, don't forget to actually hold the TX before you buy it. I have short fingers and can't hold most TX's well with out using a neck strap, so the TX has to balance and feel right on a neckstrap...

RE: pusher vs puller prop for single motor planes

Hmm, you're right, I parsed red/blue as red/black as there were only 2 wires to the motor which would mean brushed.

But if there were 3 wires, and two were swapped, then it's brushless and...

RE: JR Crystal Question

Actually, JR dual conversion crystals are in a red package. JR single conversion are in grey. And most JR FM receivers are single conversion with the ABC&W thingie which filters out noise. There...

RE: pusher vs puller prop for single motor planes

There's another issue that hasn't been pointed out yet.

Brushless motors can run equally well in either direction.

However, some DC brushed motors often can NOT. There is usually a...

RE: New to planes and have a few radio questions

I'll admit right off that I skimmed some earlier posts, so if I'm repeating what anyone else has said, sorry about that.

One thing I didn't see mentioned was that the number of channels isn't...

RE: Throttle trim

For me, it depends on the model. For aerobatic models like my Extra, power changing pitch trim messes with flying the sequences, so it's something to trim out.

But for flying a scale cub or...

RE: any thoughts on my upgrade from alfa 40?

Also, while you're working on your next plane, don't forget that an Alpha is pretty sporty with a few easy mods:

- Replace the 3-blade prop for an APC 10x7 or 11x5 or other such. The Alpha is...

RE: Smallest Gasser?

Just remember that a glow 2-stroke is lighter and has more power than a gas 2-stroke of the same size. Partly because you have to include the weight of the ignition system (electronic or magneto). ...

RE: FSA Clubhouse

Kelly, that's really cool, using it to cut vinyl like that. Maybe not quite what some of the cutters designed for it can do, but impressive. can you change the cutting path for the sharp inside...

RE: FSA Clubhouse

Kelly, that is really cool. You have any plans for it, or just wanted the ability for a while? I keep thinking that I could really use a CNC foam cutter, but I don't have space or time or money to...

RE: FSA Clubhouse

Dave, those look great, and that will probably a ton of fun.

Andrew, what are the details on the Mustang? That looks really nice.

RE: Considering used purchase - what to look for?

A lot depends on how long the plane as been sitting.

If it's been a while, you should also plan on just tossing the RX battery. It's not worth the risk.

If the engine is gummed up, then...

RE: Simulator Realism?

It depends a lot on the model. I've seen the effect you're talking about, and generally planes that are easier to fly on the sim are easier in the real world.

However, not always. If the real...

RE: WRAM show

I went.

I was there on Friday. There were fewer vendors than in the past. And there wasn't much of a crowd on Friday either. But I still had a good time and managed to do some shopping. ...

RE: FSA Clubhouse

Before you click on the form letter option, keep in mind that congress knows all about that kind of thing, and they generally ignore form letters. Take a moment to write in your own words what you...

RE: Benchmarking from RC Combat planes

oh, yeah, totally spaced on coro construction. Hard to beat for cheap and easy. a bit vunerable to prop cuts compared to foam, and sometimes heavier depending on what wingspan you're looking for. ...

RE: Benchmarking from RC Combat planes

Most combat planes in the US are built by using a hot wire to cut a foam wing core, adding spars (usually fiberglass rods, but not always, sometimes wood), and covering with tape. The tape is...

RE: FSA Clubhouse

Like everyone said, the field came out of everything pretty well off. The amount of land burned is impressive. But the runway is certainly flyable now, and even the tracks and wheel ruts in the...

I'm heading to the field in a moment.

I'm getting phone calls saying that the overfly around the field burned, but the trailer and shelter did not burn. But we have some ruts in the runway...

RE: FSA Clubhouse

I just got back from driving around to see what was open. Swietzer is still closed at the 4-way stop as of about 9:45 or so. I-95 is open of course, but there's a ton of smoke still coming over the...
