RE: VRCS Glory Days in Julian NC

Wow, and you call yourself a slow builder? That went pretty well. I need to consider what to do next. I think the BB's slab sided fuse will be better for me, no mass of stick-trusswork like some...

RE: VRCS Glory Days in Julian NC

That's nice Gene, super looking finish on this bird. Is this a 72" version? Scratch build or short kit? McCoy redhead?

RE: VRCS Glory Days in Julian NC

Thanks ! What size was the BB? I have a friend here who brought one to the Vintage event a few weeks ago. It is the BH version, but I have not been able to find any short kits larger than 72". I...

RE: VRCS Glory Days in Julian NC

Well, since some folks are still reading this thread, I will submit a question for comments. I have been looking for a large old-timer, but have not been able to find one for sale, so I am looking at...

RE: VRCS Glory Days in Julian NC

Bob - thanks for putting this event together, John and I had a great time and plan to be there next year. I'll see if I can round up some more old timers from the Southern Pines area, we have a...

RE: Hangar 9 30cc P-47 Build Thread

Thanks John - I expected to have to shorten the pilot's legs where they go under the instrument panel - isn't that a solid partition? Or do you make holes and just stick them thru? Louie

RE: Hangar 9 30cc P-47 Build Thread

I looked but may not have found the right figure, they all looked pretty crude. Did you have a link to an example? Thanks, Louie

RE: Hangar 9 30cc P-47 Build Thread

John - Where can we find a 1/6 scale pilot for these birds? It would be best to have one with a torso, since the detailed cockpit has a seat. Might have to cut his legs off at the knees, but we can...

RE: Hangar 9 30cc P-47 Build Thread

I saw the new P-47 at SEFF last week, looked and flew great. The large hatch makes installation of an electric system a snap. The dummy engine works well with the Power 160 or a Hacker up front. On...

RE: Hangar 9 30cc P-47 Build Thread

Nice video ! I am doing the same thing.

I have the old 150 sized P-51 with the E-160, APC 18x10 CC-HV110 on 10S5000 and it delivers 2500 watts on 16 Lbs for excellent performance.

I am...

RE: Hangar 9 30cc P-47 Build Thread

John - Once again, Horizon has come up with a really nice warbird. What can you tell us about the electric version? Will we get a peek at this plane at SEFF? Louie

RE: Hangar 9 1/4 Scale Piper Cub ARF???

When I did my electric 1/4 scale J-3, I contacted Bill Brundle at Hanger9 and he was kind enough to send me some comments on cutting this former to allow the batteries to slide under the panel. I run...

RE: Hangar 9 1/4 Scale Piper Cub ARF???

Obviously there are benefits on both sides - I admit I would be all over a Stearman with a Moki 5 cyl radial on it . . . But I can't see any reason to EVER go back to glow fueled engines. As Ed...

RE: Hangar 9 1/4 Scale Piper Cub ARF???

Mikael - I currently have and fly three Cubs - and I fly all electric. An 1/4 scale older H9 Super Cub with a tow release that is used for fun and aerotow, has the big fat bush-style tires. The 1/4 ...

RE: Hangar 9 1/4 Scale Piper Cub ARF???

I have not had any problems with CA hinges in the Cub or any of the H9 models. Properly installed, they work fine.

RE: Hangar 9 1/4 Scale Piper Cub ARF???

John - please post some pix of the landing gear O-rings, attachment bolts and covers. I have stretched and shortened my springs, they never worked well, they are trash quality anyway. Louie

RE: Hangar 9 1/4 Scale Piper Cub ARF???

Bill - was the GC correct? Looks like it may have been too far back, tail heavy, sort of snapped on takeoff. Hope the repairs go OK!

RE: Official F27 Stryker Part 8: Beginners to Custom Darkness

Gryphon - last time I flew mine on the Neu motor, I had some flutter with the stock ailerons. Is it possible to install a CF rod to stiffen these? I don't have the TE stock available to make new...

RE: Official F27 Stryker Part 8: Beginners to Custom Darkness

While having your own CNC milling center sounds like fun, depending on how much you invest, you have to keep it going 24/7 to pay it off. A big investment. Sometimes you can find a shop that will do...
