Nope going back to stock with the Y harness no steering servos connected to the receiver directly.

I was mistaken.  i have the 805MGs.  Interestingly enough both hitec and Tower Hobbies say quite clearly that the servos should not be hooked to the receiver but powered directly from the battery...

Update on parts :

Got replacement parts yesterday from Redcat after the fire in the electronics box. Installed them today and attempted to finish the breakin tank. The truck really is solid....
