I’ve heard of some people using a short piece of plastic drinking straw over the clunk line to stiffen it. I’ve never tried that though.

If you are concerned about it bending back on itself, insert a piece of aluminum or brass fuel tubing inside the clunk line to stiffen it. Very common practice in larger gas engine tanks.
