RE: Another Black Mark Against the Model Plane Hobby

That's some of the funniest rag reading I've seen in a very long time -- thx for sharing it with us

RE: OS Max 46FXi

When trying to prime the engine, do you have the throttle fully open? If not, it won't pull fuel when you block the carb or exhaust outlet & hand flip the prop.

Other than that it sounds ok to...

RE: Props: Master Air Screw VRS APC etc.

Generalities are -- generalities.

You just can't pick a specific manufacturer's props & say with certainty--"they are the best", or "they are the most efficient". It just isn't true, and...

RE: Nexstar Select wing tip extensions

It is a dead-simple mod that can be done by bending the rod & trimming out the lower web portion of the plastic joint-fitting, or by making a hardwood center-section spar & balsa wedges -- no big...

RE: os la 40, what prop?

A reasonable selection of props for a "trainer" & the 40LA would likely include 10-5, 10-6, 10-7, 11-4, & 11-5. However, the question "what prop?", immediately raises the question "what plane"?

RE: Tower Hobbies .46 BB abc or O.S. 46 AX

Tower 46 or AX? Not even close, despite the price difference. Get the OS, or as already mentioned in several comments, get a TT 46 Pro.

My Tower 46 is one of my least favorite engines -- it is...

RE: My TT Easy Trainer .40

Interesting comment re. your personal preference based on no experience, & the alledged preferences of others wrt OS & TT.

Currently owning more than a few engines from both manufacturers, &...

RE: Another Prop Question, OS .50SX

Were the props all the same brand, material & configuration? If not, while interesting, your test data is not truly representative of prop/engine performance.

RE: Chatham Contest August 19th

I've been away from the modelling sites for quite a while -- wow -- things have really changed -- NOT.

The same BS from the same self-serving handfull of ego-maniacs.

Thank goodness MAAC...

RE: 2 stroke vs. 4 stroke engine size selection help !!

Many manufacturers wildly inflate their HP numbers -- OS being particulary guilty.

The 70 4-S will be close to the 46 AX 2-S, but maybe a bit weaker. A 91 4-s is certainly going to outperform...

RE: OS40 problem

Sounds like a fuel pickup prob in the tank.

Check your internal tank fittings -- vent & pickup.

The vent tube should extend to the top of the tank & the fuel pickup obviously has the...

RE: Why overpower airplanes? A rant...

A significant reason that this hobby is so enjoyable is that there are no real limits to what you can make fly -- bricks included -- & the fiddling & experimenting that goes with making a brick, or...

RE: how important is that baffle

It very much depends on what brand & size engine you are using, plus what RPM you are pulling.

Some engines need the help from a baffle, while others don't care much.

For example, a TT 46...

RE: .46 thundertiger or .46 ax

Getting back to the original question -- with stock mufflers, the AX slightly outpowers the TT Pro, although removing the baffles & drilling the stinger of the stock mufflers goes a long way to...

RE: Crosswind Landings - Crab or side slip??

Normally I agree with what Mike East says -- however, in this case I don't. Weathervaning doesn't exist in flight -- what the pilot observes is the difference between heading & track. The model...

RE: Do all trainers of a type fly the same?

In general yes, but there are serious duds out there. I encountered something calleda Paragon -- it certainly wasn't. It looked like a standard 40/46 trainer, but it was an abominable pig to fly....

As a CFI, I get to fly Nexstars on a regular basis, along with just about every other trainer available in North America. It isn't perfect, but all-in-all it is an excellent teaching tool & I like...
