The Nylon bolt is held in with a 2/56 set screw. You can see it if you look close. The "L" bracket is just something I added to support the other end. You need to make sure it's supported...

I had same issue. I used 1" arms and cut the section out where the numbers are located opening up a larger area. I still get 45 degrees with the shorter arms and better mechanical advantage.
