Bob, isn't the real reason you don't want to run too lean that the engine just won't run well if at all? We're not talking about the same issues one would have with running lean on a Saito 4 stroke...

I have about 9 gas engines running without a stack. They really make it difficult to keep a cowl intact as you mentioned. I don't think they are needed but there may be special cases where they are...

The 46 would power it nicely for sport aerobatics and the 366 would provide crazy power:D

It should work just fine if you plan for balance correctly. I run a G26 converted to electronic ignition in my Cermark Pitts and it is a great performing combination.

I'm assuming you mean the spark advance options; fixed, C&H Syncro, Sholl auto? I have used both fixed and C&H and would opt for the syncro to reduce any "slap" of the prop when starting. Fixed...
