for closed coarse racing you might not need to. But it does shorten your range. I have the M11 with the specktrum and my buggy and truggy
both have about a 3 inch antenna sticking out of the radio...

if you have the cash go with the spektrum module it has the built in fail safe. there is no lag in the spektrum as with some after market failsafes.
I have a M11 with the pro module and love it...

the hyper 7 is a good buggy the 8 is the newest in the line which is similar to the Jammin CR pro kit and FTE(factory team edition) kit
I personally have the jammin line of CR FTE buggy and CRT PRO...

I have a crt also. I am having trouble finding a setup system too. I contacted hudy and they said maybe this fall they will have something avaliable. as for a setup board it is much nicer to have...
