RE: Mini Funtana Crash Rebuild and Conversion to Gas

It is with regret that I have to report the Mighty Funtana has met it's demise. Another attempt to get it airworthy has ended in a crash and a fractured wing. The wing is by all means repairable;...

RE: Mini Funtana Crash Rebuild and Conversion to Gas

I guess I assumed that you would purchased a solid carbon fiber rod. In doing so you would have to drill into it to install the metal pushrod.

RE: Mini Funtana Crash Rebuild and Conversion to Gas

Will do on the JB Quick....

Sneasle: Recomendation on drilling the carbon fiber is start small and gradually move to the size of hole you want. I have had much practice drilling rods when...

RE: Mini Funtana Crash Rebuild and Conversion to Gas

I have some carbon fiber laying around from my heli I can test. I know that the carbon fiber bonds really well with plastic and itself with CA but not too sure how it would do bonding with metal. I...

RE: Mini Funtana Crash Rebuild and Conversion to Gas

The 'mighty funtana' flew and now we have too much up thrust. The wind was beating all of the planes around but a one flight clearly showed that the thrust had a little bit too much up. Since I used...

RE: Mini Funtana Crash Rebuild and Conversion to Gas

I missed the wing incidence class in school so I am going to just adjust the engine for now and hope for the best. At this point if it even flies ok I will be happy. If it doesn't fly then I have...

RE: Mini Funtana Crash Rebuild and Conversion to Gas

Good luck Sneasle on those test. If you have done the visual comparison and you're seeing no difference I can live with that no rush to get out the camera.

RE: Mini Funtana Crash Rebuild and Conversion to Gas

Sneasle, so how does your wings line up in comparison to the thrust line? could you shoot a side angle like I did as a comparison? I would be interested in seeing if the wing incidence is off.

RE: Mini Funtana Crash Rebuild and Conversion to Gas

The shim is to actually make the thrust line level and not up. Looking at the second set of pictures (previous post)you can clearly see the engine pointing downward in the first and level in the...

RE: Mini Funtana Crash Rebuild and Conversion to Gas

I am just glad that I didn't have to be in this plane on the last two test flights. :)

I think the logical path to success is to shim it first then if I need to raise the thrust line do that....

RE: Mini Funtana Crash Rebuild and Conversion to Gas

Here are some better pictures where I lined up the aircraft and leveled it. You can see where the engine is pretty much facing down. The easy fix as I demonstrated would be to glue on a little shim...

RE: Mini Funtana Crash Rebuild and Conversion to Gas

So as it stand the funtana is a porpuse! I plus a few other have racked our brains trying to figure out what the issue could be. We have eliminated servos, and CG so we are down to thrust line or out...

RE: Mini Funtana Crash Rebuild and Conversion to Gas

Using the cable type push rod made it so much easier for me.

Well, I did happen to take a few shots of the plane before it went in so here they are. I am taking it up again this weekend so I...

RE: Mini Funtana Crash Rebuild and Conversion to Gas

Yea that should do it for you.

Well this weekend the weather is looking good and I should be able to make another attempt at a successful flight.

RE: Mini Funtana Crash Rebuild and Conversion to Gas

:D You know thinking back. I remember sanded down the one near the red arrow in order to get the tank to slide back in there more. It's still in place just a little narrow near the top par t of the...

RE: Mini Funtana Crash Rebuild and Conversion to Gas

Yea, I never built the former that the blue arrows are pointing too. You should be able to remove the same one with out that much of a fuss. Heck you can actually just cut it enough to just slip the...

RE: Mini Funtana Crash Rebuild and Conversion to Gas

My fuel tank is secured really well and I can't pull it out. I don't mind taking a few snaps of what I can. I feel that with the picture from the manual and mine you can understand which former I...

RE: Mini Funtana Crash Rebuild and Conversion to Gas

The only thing I can think of is that I didn't put in the bracket that holds the end of the electric engine mount. So I had free room from the tube section all the way to the firewall.

RE: Mini Funtana Crash Rebuild and Conversion to Gas

Nope. My tank sits on the battery tray. I rebuilt that section just like the original since that section was not as crunched. Also doing what you did and making it a solid plate. I think what made...

RE: Mini Funtana Crash Rebuild and Conversion to Gas

I just took a look at the manual and where the battery is, in the pic below, I mounted my fuel tank. I drew a red arrow to the area that the servo is mounted. I used some tri-stock and then used some...

RE: Mini Funtana Crash Rebuild and Conversion to Gas

The fuel tank on mine is mounted right behind the firewall. Then there was the rod that goes across the wings and that's where I placed the servo. If there is a battery plate there then I would just...

RE: Mini Funtana Crash Rebuild and Conversion to Gas

I placed it just behind the tube that joins the wings on some rails. Then ran a cable push rod to through the firewall. Pics below.

On the wings, I may take you up on it if this next flight...

RE: Mini Funtana Crash Rebuild and Conversion to Gas

It's repaired! Ok so the repair consisted of taking 1/8 in g-10 cutting it into a u shape that would slide strengthen the joint between the two elevator control surfaces.

1. With each piece...

RE: Mini Funtana Crash Rebuild and Conversion to Gas

So you went with just buying the wings? If so what was the driving factor?
