Yes, if you take unloading the wing to an extreme, it really helps to put flaps into play for making the turns. Adds camber back into the wing when you need it, then unloads the wing for dash...

MJD....

thick line one on the middle is the one used on Big Bruce racing Shotgun. Top one is the a 66-012 I use on the PaceMaker II, and also I understand is what Lyle uses on the Bird of Prey....

In genernal, the Viper design is sound - and it is quick. Not an obsolete design by any means. But it was designed for sport racing.

I tend to guide folks away from the 428 engines for the Viper though, especially if just for sport flying. Its a good plane, flys very well, and a number of folks have been racing...

Rudeboy makes a good point, and sorta follows up on what I noted....

Putting a ton of engine on a viper is a waste. It is simply not designed/built to go THAT fast.

honestly, for a Viper, just a plain TT40Pro or TT46Pro is all that is needed. Perhaps add a Jett-stream or ultra-thrust muffler to it for a few more RPM. A basic APC 9x7 prop. At 130 mph it will...

I agree MJD..... well said.

The weight and complexity doesn't help things either.

None the less, it will be interesting to see how this works out. Im not one to begrudge another model...

Your fastest/easiest best bet here.....

buy the Viper, reinforce the landing gear and firewall area. Make sure the stab incidence is correct.

Then find a used/retired Nelson or Jett...
