Not necessary to save weight in a model this size, in fact the flying characteristics will improve especially in rough weather conditions.

Interesting but a 1/4 scale model is a very different kettle of fish. It's so big and open structured you are talking strips 20, 30 and more mm. A bit different to 3/8"!
