RE: Incident with the yak over the weekend

We've noticed here at OMP that extreme abuse of your rudders doing the "9" will put stress on the hinges - even nylon hinges. I always use the pin hinges on anything bigger than a 40 size profile.

RE: OMP Yak build

Hey guys thanks for the great feedback on the Yak. Check the center position of the ailerons and make sure they aren't tucked down somewhat during harriers. Also typically a nose heavy plane will...

RE: OMP Yak build

Without a doubt, the best prop for the OS .91 is the new APC 16-4 fun fly wide blade prop. I switched to that and it's awesome for 3D. Good throttle response and no air cavitation at all during...

RE: OMP Yak build

Yep, the sullivan bracket is very popular back here at OMP as well. Bolts nicely to the hardwood plate at the back and the spring attachment to the rudder works well to keep stress of landings off...

RE: RE: RE: OMP Yak build

M Grambling,

The plans show the CG 3/4" behind the rear edge of the tube or 1 1/8" from the center of the tube. This is a conservative starting point and probably nose heavy for most 3d flyers....

RE: RE: RE: RE: OMP Yak build

Smallfly,

Thanks for the great report. Check your lateral balance and make sure you don't have one wing heavire than the other. That can cause wing rocking. Also trying to harrier into...

RE: RE: RE: OMP Yak build

Smallfly,

I really like that covering scheme. Great job! I never added the yellow stripes on mine (got too hurried to fly!) but it really sets it off nice. Guess I'll go clean mine off and...

RE: OMP Yak build

JoeBob,

Key thing is a good square and straight edge. There's no secret, just good tools and patience. Use the straight edge to make sure the root rib is not bowed front to back wehn building...

RE: RE: RE: OMP Yak build

Nope, a little bow won't hurt at all on these profiles. They aren't designed to fly straight anyway. You'd be hardpressed to find a perfectly straight fuse anywhere anyhow. The rudder is so big it...

RE: RE: RE: OMP Yak build

Dang Blackie, that may be a record for the longest RCU post!

Step 18 says sheet the servo bay during this step (wing is upside down). Step 20 says you are done with this side of the wing, flip...

RE: RE: OMP Yak build

That's correct, only the bottom where the servo is mounted is sheeted completely from rib to rib. The top side only has the rib caps on them. The instructions annotate this when you flip the wing...

RE: RE: OMP Yak build

Uh Smallfly, you know you have your wings on upside down or reversed should I say. Servo bays normally go on the bottom but since the wings are completely symetrical I'm sure you just slid the left...

RE: OMP Yak build

Bingo young grasshoppers! There is no dihedral on the wings at all. They fit 90 degrees flush to the fuselage and are on a straight line from center of tip to center of tip. BUT.....since the top...

RE: OMP Yak build

The ribs will always tip toward the tip in a quad tapered wing. Think about it: both the top and bottom surface of the wings taper toward the tip rib which is shorter than the root; so if you lay...

RE: OMP Yak right wing

Smallfly,

Yea it would cost almost $100 more just to print that extra wing panel! ha ha, no maybe only 99 bucks but really it's not complicated at all. Both wings are exactly the same except...

RE: OMP Yak right wing

Nice building thread guys.

One note though as the designer: The rudder has all the authority you can want in the stock size. Making it any bigger might cause the prop to hit the rudder when...
