Sounds to me like it has a bad glow-plug, have you tried a new one or does it stay running with the glow power attached?

Have you tried to reproduce this on the ground?

If it dies upside down on the ground at least you have a change to check what it is, like air in the fuel or simply running too lean. I find it...
