I suggest you take a look at Caster. The EX1.5r is a great buggy. With the saddle pack design it has the best balance and holds great corner speed. I switched from a MBX6 and shaved a full second off...

did you put the shims back in and on the proper side? Also check how your input shaft is hooked to the pinion it may be pushing the pinion in and messing up the gear mesh.
