RE: Phoenix Extra 330S 60-90 Size

WOW that's HEAVY!!!

My 1.20 ax (per tower) wieghs just short of 30 ounces ready to go. My 5 cell aa pack sits about 2 inches behind the back of the canopy. The engine swings a 16x6 with a wicked...

RE: Phoenix Extra 330S 60-90 Size

The plane can handle the weight........so........

If you are a pilot who uses throttle moderatly.....no. If you fly at wot constantly, yes.

RE: Phoenix Extra 330S 60-90 Size

Apparently you use cad.

So lets make a simple comparison to a clock. When facing the plane nose on, the three o'clock position is zero. Noon is 90 degrees, 9'oclock is 180 and 6 is 270. The...

RE: Phoenix Extra 330S 60-90 Size

Imho I dont think the yellow will do you much good on the wing bottom, I'd elect for red or black. Also I STRICTLY stay with a striped wing bottom that parallels the fuselage for quick orientation. A...

RE: Phoenix Extra 330S 60-90 Size

My apologies.......... I thought the stock servos would be like 40 some oz inches of torque.......... that should be fine. But I HIGHLY recommend 5 cells with spektrum rx's. That way you can avoid...

RE: Phoenix Extra 330S 60-90 Size

Did you max out your servo travel with your tx? You should be able to get what you need. But be warned, I do believe that standard jr servos are not enough for this plane, especially with maxed out...

RE: Phoenix Extra 330S 60-90 Size

And the results show.........

Everything turned out good. Played with the cg to get it right, and it seemed to land alot better, even on the tail heavy side. I am glad all in all that I made the...

RE: Phoenix Extra 330S 60-90 Size

Okay, the incidence mod is done. Instead of using the tip of the ailerons (which are subject to change cuz of trim) I used the te of the wing as my baseline. I raised it 3/32 at that point. The stock...

RE: Phoenix Extra 330S 60-90 Size

Saito 125.......... why not? Im all for the more the merrier philosiphy....... as long as prop torque don't make your aileron trim change too much.......do it!!

RE: Phoenix Extra 330S 60-90 Size

I am gonna do it before I take her back out to the field on Sunday. I just have a feeling it may do the trick. I like your train of thought. Cant change the stab so change the wing...... nice!

RE: Phoenix Extra 330S 60-90 Size

The tank re-postition is completely reversible....I'll snap some photos so you know what I mean. All I have to do is advance the tank and trim the fuel line till Im satisfied with its position.

RE: Phoenix Extra 330S 60-90 Size

The cg is currently at 4 1/8". This is 5/8" foreward from factory spec. When I fill the tank in its current location it moves only about 3/16 inch foreward.

Another quick note.............when I...

I didnt do enough flying to test what you said in your second paragraph............but I did do some thinking as to where the cg just might have been with the .90.........

I always set my cg to...

RE: Phoenix Extra 330S 60-90 Size

So the work is done. The 1.20 is in!!! I took a few shots for comparison's sake between the .90 and 1.20. As you can see it needed a bit of firewall modification to fit the ax muffler. I have had...

RE: Phoenix Extra 330S 60-90 Size

Oh man that SOOOO sucks!!! We all get dumb thumbs!!! I lost my first one on week two. I believe the on off switch failed. I bought another. The only salvagable part (of the kit) was one wing and of...

RE: Phoenix Extra 330S 60-90 Size

Very nice looking plane! Glad to hear all went well with the maiden. I really dig the swept checkered flag look. It must have been time consuming. Well worth the effort though! Looks awesome!! Great...

RE: Phoenix Extra 330S 60-90 Size

Its somewhere close to there. I havent stripped any weight out of it either. I run a 16 oz tank with a 2oz header tank. Its not featherweight, but it flies like it is. Well except for the hover part....

RE: Phoenix Extra 330S 60-90 Size

Long story on the header tank, but it was removed the day of the maiden of the edge.

My Phx extra with the sk .90 still has a header tank. The purpose is to keep a clunk submerged at all times....

RE: Phoenix Extra 330S 60-90 Size

I agree on the lower dia props if it were an os.

This sk is ported for big props at low rpms. 16x4 actually turned pretty fast, but it REALLY lacked the airspeed. Ive kicked this one around...

RE: Phoenix Extra 330S 60-90 Size

Actually Im using a SK .90. And It seems to like a 15x6 the best. I did a thrust test today with a digital fish scale and came up with just short of 8 lbs. So with a full tank Im probably less than...

RE: Phoenix Extra 330S 60-90 Size

cmoulder..........

I am really considering your mod also of decreasing the wing incidence by raising the wing te .093. My question to you is what exactly does it fix???

This plane generally...
