RE: wing reinforcement rods for ssc

To protect the .09 rod in the LE I sink them .5 to 3/4 inch into the LE. The slot gets filled up with probond. So far I haven't broke a LE rod and have had some pretty hard hits!

RE: Ziggs BF 109

They are heavily wing loaded and are often difficult to launch! Be sure to build as light as possible and have a strong engine. Depepnding on what you plan to use them for you might want to replace...

RE: Which engines for Open B?

The FX is a great engine and very reliable. Also has the least vibration of any engines I've seen. I've got a box full of MVVS's if your interested!

RE: Best .15 combat engine

The carb attachment area on the Mag XL is also weak. It will crack or break off parts of the case. I've fixed mine with high temp silicone. Until the next dirtnapp!

RE: Thunder Tiger .15GP?

I just got some TT .15's and I am a bit worried about the needle valve like you said! It looks to be pretty easy to change to a RNV operation though. I'm not going to run bladders so maybe it will...

RE: source for streamers?

Thats the stuff. I've found the orange to be the best available. The blue looks dark on my screen but when I got it it was sky blue. Not a good pick! You can split it in half if you want to...

RE: source for streamers?

We use the flagging tape streamers for practice at home. They are hard to cut and so they last a lot longer. The drapes and pull offs are also a hoot. I have a move we call the Fredricks flip. ...

RE: POWER FOR OPEN A?

About the only place you'll find open A being flown is on the east coast. A really long drive for you!

There is a lot of SSC action in between!

RE: WING SERVO MOUNTING?

I usually use hot melt glue here. It hold well and you can get it off when you need to. I've used Foam safe CA in a pinch. Not easy to get off!

RE: SSC design parameters?

Ripstop can be applied as stated with WBP. I've been hearing good things about using Icarex which is a nylon fabric covered with polycarbonate. It is stiff like paper. To apply it you spray the...

RE: SSC design parameters?

Most combat planes are covered with nylon material either from a fabric store or a kite supplier. The nylon adds a ton of strength and helps diperse the energy of a midair into the foam. Monokote...

RE: SSC design parameters?

That's the great thing about SSC. Most designs are pretty equal. The warbirds are just as competative as the open designs. I think they even fly a bit better!

Low wing loading and a...

RE: .15 Engine Recommedations

I've heard god things about the Thunder Tiger .15. It is basically a FP clone. I haven't ran one yet but I did just order a couple.

It does have a slightly larger crank.

RE: Guys we need to know everything.

CF is right on. If you don't have strict rules someone will come out with a high powered engine and slaughter everyone. It's ante up or get out time. Someone comes out with a really light plane...

RE: Guys we need to know everything.

I agree with C/F on the HS-85 metal geared servo. Very tough and work great. I like the Hitec recievers also. The 555 will take a ton of abuse and vibration without fialure. Radical RC has a...

RE: Guys we need to know everything.

Only trouble with the .25LA is that your planes won't qualify for SSC. And you would be seriously outclassed if you decied to attend a B contest. You may be better off to pick an existing class and...

RE: Guys we need to know everything.

Be sure to look at the SSC class. The .15 engine limitation and RPM max make it a simple and fun class. The B (up to .30) class is a blast but is unlimited by RCCA rules. With aftermarket...

RE: Fun Bat and OS CV 15-A Prop ???

Ripstop for Ailerons?

I built 2 planes and covered one with nylon and the other with bi-directional tape and colored tape.

Fuselage with tape gained 2.3 ounces from the covering job which consisted on 1 layer of bi...

Ripstop for Ailerons?

I covered the entire wing and fuse with Bi tape and then colored over that. Probably was a bit of overkill but I like everything a bit protected! The colored tape is very light and adds almost no...

Ripstop for Ailerons?

I just finished taping my first plane and I think it actually takes more hands on time than it does to ripstop it after you have the hang of ripstoping. It is nice to not have any drying time...
