RE: ROYAL - MARUTAKA and MK KITS COMPLETE LISTING

When you guys buy these old kits to build, do you replace all the skin balsa? I found that the planking balsa on the B-17 I built was terrible stuff. It was all dried out and not so good even when it...

RE: Royal Kits

On our B-17 we used four, OS FS-26s, 4-stroke and the plane was a bit underpowered according to the owner and pilot, Mike Hunt. The second problem we had was getting them to idle having been mounted...

RE: Royal Kits

Great Job! I really like the modest weathering you did to it. I like you Stafford B-24 also. Glad to see it flying and performing. It was excellent that you were able to take that rather ugly model...

RE: Royal Kits

I feel your pain. Anybody can build a complicated mechanism that can hold up a plane when it's big enough. The trick is making it small. Kind of reminds me about a story about Etore Bugatti... His...

RE: Royal Kits

Frankly, the real one seems too flimsey. Strength of materials changes as we shrink down to model sizes. Some things just don't scale well. But that Isreali machinist seemed to make a pretty...

RE: Royal Kits

I wasn't tracking how you were describing the Bearcat's articulated landing gear, and then I found this on one of the searches.

It shows how complex...

RE: Royal Kits

They make Flat monokote? Now you tell me! I had to use gloss dove gray on the bottom on the one I built.

RE: Royal Kits

Wow! It's got to be fast! Where did all the weight go? I never thought of using standard paints and then clear coating. It would have been much easier than hand painting Warbird Cross-linked Acrylic.

RE: Royal Kits

What did you do for the machine guns? Looks good and you know it flies. What paint did you use and how did you apply it? Questions, questions.

RE: Royal Kits

But electrics with those spectacular sound systems is a totally different thing. The sound systems make the electrics much better than I.C. It also adds $$ and weight which negates some of electric's...

RE: Royal Kits

For the Marutaka kit (which I believe is the Royal's twin), the down thrust was -2º to cancel the wings +2º angle of attack, and the side thrust is Right 1º for the right hand engines...

RE: Royal Kits

The Stearman is a lovely plane. I built a Sterling U-control Stearman with an Enya .35 in it in 1968. Phew! That was a long, long time ago. I built it while student teaching in Flint, MI. I lived in...

RE: Royal Kits

I love the Stafford B-24. As I told you before, it was one of the first multis of which I became aware and wanted to build one. I neither had the skill or the money to do so at the time in the mid...

RE: ROYAL - MARUTAKA and MK KITS COMPLETE LISTING

Don't forget the B-17E. This one flew for the first time in June. I built it for Mike Hunt of Floyd's Knob, IN. It has four O.S. FS-26 four-strokes, plus Dave Brown motor mounts, seperate Hi-tech...

RE: Royal Kits

Wow! Electrics! That baby begs to have a cool sound system. Since there are a number of real '17s flying, it shouldn't be too difficult to get a sample of all four of those P&Ws running. There should...

RE: B-17 80

I built a 6-channel p-47 semi-scale with full retracts and flaps. I invented ways to get the inner doors and the tail wheel clamshells closed since it was a top flight 60 sized plane that didn't have...

B-17 80" Time to Build

I've been asked by an experienced Jet flier if I'd like to build an 80" B-17, either sport or scale (my choice) for him. I've never built a multi-engine scale plane before and would like to know...
