RE: Hobby People's VQ-Global 28% Fly Baby ARF

The pilot looks good from the front-end view.

RE: Hobby People's VQ-Global 28% Fly Baby ARF

I must admit I quite like the VQ covering. I store my planes in the rafters of my garage where it gets pretty hot in summer. The VQ covering never seems to be affected by the heat, whereas all my...

RE: Hobby People's VQ-Global 28% Fly Baby ARF

That engine looks fantastic.

I don't think you would want to glue the wing spar in the fuselage? I can't see that gluing would add much structural strength and it would be hard to straighten it if...

RE: Saito FG-21 (1.26) 4-Stroke Gas Engine

I agree with w8ye...you will be fine with that plane. I have a FG-20 in a VQ 2.7 metre wingspan Pilatus Porter weighing 14 pounds (recommended 25-30cc 2-stroke petrol) and it is fine. You have to fly...

RE: New Evolution 10cc gas engine

I was looking at the manual. It is strange that it does not recommend a metal motor mount and a nylon throttle control rod set-up. The engine even includes a felt clunk and inline fuel filter to help...

RE: Hangar 9 Meridian 10cc build thread with Evolution 10cc gasser engine

Good build. This is probably stating what you already know, but you should generally use metal motor mounts for gas engines if you can. Not essential, but just helps that little bit with cooling for...

RE: Saito FG-14B CDI+hall sensor needs help

You can buy all sorts of holder extensions for the sensor magnet. I managed to get by with the existing FG-14 tapped screws (for the TDC set-up) with a plastic holder that was long enough to get the...

RE: Hangar 9 40 Size Piper Pawnee!!!

This plane flies best with the engine in the recommended range and a 4-stroke 61 is fine.

RE: Kill Switch regulations

I'd like to contribute to this thread, but after reading through all the posts I'm not sure I can.

For some reason, when I built my first >14lb plane I thought one had to have a remote cut-off. An...

RE: *Hangar 9 New Pulse 125*

I've got a Saito FG-14, 4 stroke gas (equivalent to about an 82 size Saito nitro)in my Pulse 60. Plenty of power for this style of plane. I've had 100s of flights on the stock plane and landing gear...

RE: Saito - Pro FG 14 Tips and tricks only!!!

Yes, just keep adjusting one click at a time. It sounds like you are doing fine.

RE: Saito - Pro FG 14 Tips and tricks only!!!

I think it is a NGK(?) spark plug, which cost $8 at my local hobby shop. They stock it for similar sized 2-stroke petrol engines. Any spark plug that is the same size should be fine. Just make sure...

RE: Saito FG-20 or 21

I've been running the FG-14 (100hrs) and FG-20 (50hrs) with no problems. I had some initial problems sourcing a part for the FG-14 after a crash and with fueling for the FG-20 when I first set it up....

RE: Saito - Pro FG 14 Tips and tricks only!!!

I think others have previously advised that you really need to fly the engine to get the tuning fully sorted. It seems to me you have tuned it as well as you can on the ground. You need to get it...

RE: Saito FG-20 or 21

I would try to richen the low end, perhaps try half a turn or more. I trhink these engines generally run best richer on the low end. They are less likely to dead stick and you can get a few more...

RE: Seagull 1.20 PT-19

Mine uses an inverted ASP 120 4-stroke. From memory, I used the recommended CoG in the manual which seems to be fine. I think you'll be able to get away with shifting around  the location of the...

RE: Seagull 1.20 PT-19

In my experience, the stock landing gear is fine. BUT the supporting wire for the oleos will bend easily with careless landings. This, in turn, breaks the grey plastic spats. The wire is easy enough...

RE: Seagull 1.20 PT-19

Thanks greg. Yes, the DX18 (or DX8) would be great to program the flaps. Mine is still on the DX6. Mine's still flying, but took a heavy landing on the wekend and broke the wheel mount. Glued back...

RE: Saito - Pro FG 14 Tips and tricks only!!!

I have a FG-14 that I always run dry and a FG-20 that I never run dry (different fuel set ups). I probably fly the planes about every three weeks on average. I must say I can't really tell any...

RE: Am I just getting burnt out?

Yeah, I think the motivation can wax and wane a bit. It is the same with anything once you get to a certain standard and keep doing the same thing.

I think most of us gravitate to a particular...

RE: Saito - Pro FG 14 Tips and tricks only!!!

Glad it looks like you got your problems sorted. Yes, I've always found it best for a gradual increase in throttle on take off, a gentle climb out (I just use rudder to get into the circuit) and then...

RE: Saito - Pro FG 14 Tips and tricks only!!!

Mine is running fine now. It turns out the ignition was damaged in my crash and wasn't sparking correctly. I replaced it with a RExcel ignition from my LHS. I had to fiddle with the Hall sensor...

RE: Saito FG-20 or 21

I think it is normally best to have the LS needle rich (try a full half turn richer) and then you can tune the HS about 10 clicks leaner to clean up the transition and top end. In my view, the best...

RE: Saito FG-30 gas troubles

Even a perfectly tuned and fueled engine can cough a bit if the elecronic ignition timing is out by a little. I just mention this because I have in the past experimented by just moving the Hall...

RE: Hangar 9 40 Size Piper Pawnee!!!

My experience was the opposite. It was a pretty easy build with plenty of room for installation. Like others, I had to stick the Rx battery down the tail. I did add some more glue to some of the...
