RE: Mick Reeves 1/4 Sopwith Camel

The G-20 might be ok. You will need nose weight most likely.. I put my Camel aside for a lil while and I need to get back on it. I have mixed feelings about Gas in WWI planes. I don't think the...

RE: Mick Reeves 1/4 Sopwith Camel

J I'm sorry I don't have a stock number. A friend and I bought it togather and split the price. He probably didn't even keep the receipt and the fabric has no numbers on it. It's thin though that...

RE: Mick Reeves 1/4 Sopwith Camel

I haven't done too much on the Camel lately. I've been busy with "important" stuff lol. But I did manage to construct the elevator. As you can see by the picture it's a little different from your...

RE: Mick Reeves 1/4 Sopwith Camel

I don't have access to the plans right now so I don't remember where F6 or F7 is but.. my instruments are flush with the rear of the Instrument panel so attaching it to the shorter former poses no...

RE: Mick Reeves 1/4 Sopwith Camel

Alan you are correct in that the former with 3 holes is the instrument panel. The shallower former goes in front of that and they are both joined. I screwed my instrument panel to the shallower...

RE: Mick Reeves 1/4 Sopwith Camel

Alan here's link to another camel build. It's a 1/3 scale and it's in Dutch but the pictures might help you later on.

RE: Mick Reeves 1/4 Sopwith Camel

Let me check the plans when I get home and I'll try to answer you. Yes there are discrepencies on the plans and are at times confusing..

RE: Mick Reeves 1/4 Sopwith Camel

Jack yep the Camel is rigged the same as the Pup and many WWI planes.. that is having 2 flying wires and a single landing wirel. I'm guessing that upright flight was done nearly all the time. I...

RE: Mick Reeves 1/4 Sopwith Camel

Randy thanks for that bit of information. I have seen plenty of jets with hopper tanks and a few heli's. They all seem to work just fine. Since my hopper tank is so tall I don't know if a clunk...

RE: Mick Reeves 1/4 Sopwith Camel

Mike thanks for looking in. No problem with your answer being long.. I considered the inverted flight issues some but I doubt if they will be much of a problem due to the fact that I won't fly the...

RE: Mick Reeves 1/4 Sopwith Camel

My big whoop of the weekend! I made the wooden gun handles and their brass rivets. The charging handle had of the correct shape to be made from scratch. I used styrene for that and solid brass...

RE: Mick Reeves 1/4 Sopwith Camel

A couple of pictures of the guns.. The Williams bros guns are pretty decent but not totally accurate for my Camel. Most guns of the period don't have the louvers on the front end of the barrel plus...

RE: Mick Reeves 1/4 Sopwith Camel

Jack thanks. I think the windsock data file does not show the cowl plate on the Pup. At least that's what I was told.

RE: Mick Reeves 1/4 Sopwith Camel

Hmm Don thats odd. Its a timing plate that says that if the engine or prop is removed the guns MUST be retimed. Maybe the Snipe was different?

RE: Mick Reeves 1/4 Sopwith Camel

Jack yes should be fun lol.
So far as I know all the Sopwith planes that fired through the prop had the warning plate on the cowl.

RE: Mick Reeves 1/4 Sopwith Camel

Here's a picture of the "just made" data plate. Once the top section of the Fuse is installed the only way you'll be able to see it is to stand on your head lol! The art work was made in Corel Draw...

RE: Mick Reeves 1/4 Sopwith Camel

I just thought I'd post a graphic of my fuel tank set up plus a picture of the hopper tank in the plane. The hopper tank is right up against the firewall and the smaller feeder tank will be below it...

RE: Mick Reeves 1/4 Sopwith Camel

J my friend has a GTM Dr1 with the same engine. His flies but he would love to have more power. It flies but in his estimate ..marginal. Just something to think about.

RE: Mick Reeves 1/4 Sopwith Camel

J thanks for the information and the kind words.
If I change my mind on the header tanks (pending some measuring) I'll probably use a single tank with two clunks. I don't see a problem doing...

RE: Mick Reeves 1/4 Sopwith Camel

Steve having the small tank allows me to put the tank on or near the centerline of the carb. The engine I'm using is a Laser 200 V that has twin carbs. I think I'll be ok..

I did some testing...

RE: Mick Reeves 1/4 Sopwith Camel

Seth, I see what you mean. I'll need to purge the air in the smaller tanks when filling the main tanks. Yes a separate vent line should do the trick. I think I should "bread board" it out of the...
