RE: Is it time to revisit AMA safety code rule 4 ?:

I think the dangers of maiden flights in general are overrated and that is why I posted the thread to begin with.

The case of the Aero-Design events proves that maiden flights with a degree of...

RE: Is it time to revisit AMA safety code rule 4 ?:

No doubt there are more AMA events. But, I maintain that the average model that would be first flown at an event is far less likely to crash than the highly experimental load lifters at the Aero...

RE: Is it time to revisit AMA safety code rule 4 ?:

I an not really a heli pilot, and thus I do not go to heli events, but your point is well taken.

You have supplied another excellent example of a real world situation where the proven model rule...

RE: Is it time to revisit AMA safety code rule 4 ?:

The Aero Design events are notably larger than any others held at out club site when it comes to attendees and spectators. There are many hundreds of people there. There were 54 teams entered. I...

RE: Is it time to revisit AMA safety code rule 4 ?:

And yet the Aero-design events are doing first flights with more risk that the typical hobby R/C model first flight in public, in competition with a safe record.

I for one enjoy seeing first...

RE: Is it time to revisit AMA safety code rule 4 ?:

Better check out the action on this 2.5 minute youtube vidbefore you give them too much credit:

The models are designed and constructed by student...

RE: Is it time to revisit AMA safety code rule 4 ?:

All those qualifications are mentioned or alluded to in the first post. I am using it as an illustration of an alternative way of approaching maiden flights at AMA events.

I happen to find it...

RE: Is it time to revisit AMA safety code rule 4 ?:

It is all about the interpretation of the rules....which is why Rule 4could usesome attention.

RE: Is it time to revisit AMA safety code rule 4 ?:

I meant exactly what I posted.

I excluded the electric only/quiet only ruleon purpose....most people get the basicpark rules.. ...don't forgetthey include other models besides park...

RE: Is it time to revisit AMA safety code rule 4 ?:

Nope...did not say that, or imply that. Here were my exact words:

1. I feel that AMA park type models flown at fly in type events should not be subject to rule 4 as currently written, given the...

RE: Is it time to revisit AMA safety code rule 4 ?:

One issue I forgot to mention was re-flying a model damaged to some extentat an event. I think this is done fairly often and in lots of cases, it probably fractures rule 4, dependin on various...

RE: Is it time to revisit AMA safety code rule 4 ?:

The AMA is self insured on all smaller claims, so the decision is not only up to the insurance company that handles larger claims.

I think the rule is worth discussing as it gets danced around a...

RE: Is it time to revisit AMA safety code rule 4 ?:

Not a good enough reason, IMO. I think I made a good case for the small model exception, as the AMA did when it set the Park model classification. The little dogs are much less likely to cause a...

RE: Is it time to revisit AMA safety code rule 4 ?:

Hmm...interesting comment on the PCM Rx......., my experience is that PCM tends to be more reliable than PPMon 72 and not less. Local flying fields that I attend for events post known 72 mHz problems...

Is it time to revisit AMA safety code rule 4 ?:

While some will think it is sacreligious to discuss the modification of a safety rule, I would like to think that somethingcontroversial could be openlydiscussed witha minimum ofdrama andheated...
