looks alot like a seagull models Giles 202 I had. The cowl looks just like the one I had. Tail feathers are certainly a P-51.

smith mini plane balanced but still wants to climb

I bought a sig smith mini plane at a garage sale. I installed a .46 OS engine and found the CG. It balances a little nose heavy but every time I try to fly it appears tail heavy and wants to climb....

I flew my avistar trainer all the time until fellow flyers told me I was beyond it. I had increased the throw on the control surfaces, learned to mix in rudder, fly inverted and do basic acrobatics....
