RE: Help landing ?

Ideally, the plane should stall just as the wheels touch. It sounds like you're coming in too steep and flaring too high and it's dropping in. Come in at a more level attitude but with the nose...

RE: Dead sticks are ok

Actually, there are five:

Altitude above you, runway behind you, fuel in the can on the ground, airspeed you don't have, and a second ago.

RE: Dead sticks are ok

Congrats! Good job. You were in about the worst position you could be in.

When it gets real quiet up there - set up to land RIGHT WHERE YOU ARE. Anything else is gravy. Keep the nose down...

RE: Idiots On The Flying Field

Let me address that. My wife and I were at a fly in at another club. The pilot's meeting stated spottere were required. I fueled up and was flying, with my wife spotting for me. Another plane...

RE: What are these for?

Good reply, Evil Merlin. You could be right. Boost tabs operated in the opposite direction of the control surface and, as EM said, allowed the surface to be moved easier.

Anyone know the...

RE: What are these for?

On the full scale plane, those are trim tabs. On a model, you can install them in a fixed position to maintain the scale outlines. They will have little or no effect on the flying characteristics...

RE: my cub flies a lil funny

On the engine, if it pulls hard to the left when the throttle is quickly increased, then you need more right thrust. However, with that big engine it's possible you already have too much right...

RE: Idiots On The Flying Field

Including what YOU tell us, Rick?

I don't fault them, I fault the field and the club (if any) that controls it. No flight rules and no one to enforce them? No instructors? No experienced...

RE: I've Read Nothing But Bad About What I Bought.

Sounds good to me. The kit is a complicated build, but Top Flite kits and instructions are usually good. Go slow and you'll be ok. The flaps are complicated and a tinkerman's dream, but I've heard...

RE: Engine identification help 2 stroke glow

It is, indeed, a Skyward. Moderate power and quality. OOP I believe.

RE: What are Flapperons???

What he said..."Normal" flaperons are operated by a rotating knob on the transmitter (the flap control) and are independent of other controls. Our case was special use. One aileron servo is plugged...

RE: What are Flapperons???

Let's see if I remember this...we hooked one servo to the aileron channel and one to the flap channel and mixed the two, then slaved the whole mess to the elevator so the flaperons would operate...

RE: What are Flapperons???

The advantage of flaperons is it simplifies building and linkage installation. The disadvantage is it degrades the function of both the flaps and ailerons. Separate flaps require two more servos...

RE: Why Have 72 mhz Radios Not Come Down In Price?

Aren't the 2.4 radios more expensive? Many of us who don't fly in a crowded environment don't see the need to change over to 2.4. The prices stay up for one reason - there is still a demand for 72...

RE: Building Surface Recommendations

Continue using the backs of ceiling tiles. Cover them with 3/32 cork - attached with a light spray of 3M-77. You can find the cork in rolls at places like Lowe's, Home Depot, Michael's, and Hobby...

RE: Prop Balancing Question

Don't sand it. My preferred method of balancing a wooden prop is to spray light coats of clear poly-u on the front of the light blade. Unless it's drastically OOB, one or two coats will do it. ...

RE: Attaching control horns ?

I like using a Z bend at the servo arm and an adjustable nylon clevis at the control horn. I make the Z bend using a pair of Z bend pliers so it's nice and square and tight.

RE: fuel tank clunk?

The klunk running dry for a second usually won't cause a flameout. A standard klunk with standard fuel line should be plenty flexible. Make sure the klunk is about 3/8" away from the back of the...

RE: Top flite Cesna 182 skylane kit

Is this the 81" Top Flite kit you're talking about? If so...

First, the recommended two stroke engine range for this kit is .61-.91. Your O.S. .61 will be marginal at best and would certainly...

RE: Super Sportster 60 or Ultra Sport 60 or Super Chipmunk

You picked three good ones.

My preference would be the Super Sportster 60. I've always liked the appearance of the SS series. They look sorta rag-wing home-built semi-scale. You could even...

RE: Receiver Battery Plugged in Wrong.

It won''t hurt any modern RX. They'll have inline diodes that prevent reversed voltage damage. You might want to mark the + pole of the plug with some nail polish or something like that.

RE: Rudder flutter problem...

Yup, looks like a dirty or worn out servo to me, too. They're usually not worth trying to clean and you'll probably never get all the dirt out. Scrap it.

RE: OS 46SF running problems

Also make sure it isn't leaking around the needle in the valve body. I believe OS has a small O-ring in there to prevent that.

RE: Prop Nut: Is there such thing as TOO tight?

OK, after you snug it down finger-tight, tighten about 1/2 turn more.

RE: Prop Nut: Is there such thing as TOO tight?

Too tight is bad. If the cone of the spinner rubs against the prop, it could cause the prop to wear and fail
(read - "shed a blade") while the engine is running. Nothing about the spinner except...
