As my Dad was fond of saying, "this thing is as handy as a shirt pocket."

Yep, although for his generation, a pocket without a protector would likely get you thrown out of the "Smart Kids" class. Man, showing my age here.........

Even though grew up with mechanical versions that used many times a day, have one of these digitals down in the build room, one up here in my office and another in my tool box at work. A lot easier to read quickly. Just need to ensure accuracy as a few Pac Rim models are notoriously bad. Also, some eat batteries more than others, even when "OFF" in their cases.

Been a while since on this thread and some interesting info. Started off with the post on the plug and it brought up what I read recently on a CD given to me on how to fix a few faults on Quadra gas engines and how some of it could apply to pretty well all makes.

One in particular is a quick mod to the plug to improve spark and starting. That and an RMJ ring are intended for the DLE 30 that would replace the S150 if found to not have enough power. Really want to avoid that since much prefer the Saitos. Another consideration since nitro fuel is more difficult to get now and why I had been reading up on ignitions is to mod the 150 for nitro ignition to try and reduce consumption.

And again, for some reason cannot upload pics........

Yessir,

Very handy, We keep them around everyhere.

Fifty plus years in the trade and some tools begin to multiply. There was one place I worked however that would not allow measurements from the rotating dial calipers. They preferred we use linear vernier type calipers.

A Saito 180 would get you close to a DLE 30. The Saito 220 a little better than a DLE30.

The Saito 180 with CDI and methanol fuel would be close to the power of a glow Saito 220.

My 220 spins a 20x6 very close to the same rpm that my 180's can spin an 18x6W. The CDI will add approx 300 rpm to the top end of either engine however CDI won't really get the 180 close to the hp of a 220 on glow. At least not in my experience. The 220 is a beastly thing at 36cc. Just my thoughts.

Okay

The pair here were within 300 to 400 RPM.
Not close at all.

In our scenario, the 220 GI puts out a little over .25 more horsepower than the 180 on CDI.......however all while spinning a 2" larger dia prop. Waaaay more thrust availalable with the 220 if that's what the OP is looking for.

"If" .....that is what the OP is looking for

Did I say or imply the 180 produced more thrust?
.25 HP sounds about right. "Close"

No, not at all, just clarifying.

YUK! I hate the engine mount configuration! Your stuck using there mount and it carb sits behind it calling for a boxed firewall.

Default Like it or not, you will be buying quite a few

Should be a good choice for that Calvin Cartoon Tiger's plane. As they like to say "That's why they make throttles"

The customers often drive designs. That front access to fasteners is probably perfect for service with drone installations.

Looks pretty good to the big customers. You will be buying a few but your grandchildren will spend their lives paying for them LOL!

I have a FA-56 already to go into the Tiger 2. I had to order a tank so I'm waiting for it to show up.

Lucky we have those little ones on hand already!

Hang on to them.

The war mongers have no use for them, but Saito has little interest in building them.
Drones are where the money is, at least for now.

Anyone here notice the lever BEHIND the throttle lever on the new FG-50?

Possibly a choke or fuel enrichening device?

On another note, due to the apprehensiveness of many sceptics concerning proprietary Saito gas carbs, I feel Saito would have greater sales numbers and a higher return on investment had they marketed this and other FG's with Walbro carbs. Just seems they're trying to reinvent the wheel. That said, I'm not a skeptic, my FG's run quite nicely with the proprietary carb. How long the carb parts will be available is my primary concern ie I can get rebuild kits very cheap for 30+ yr old walbro, zama and tillotson carbs.

hey Guys. I don't know if this is a big thing these days with the new radios, but how close can I mount my battery pack (NiCads) to the Rx and antennas? I ask because the people use-to say to keep them as far apart as you can.

I am trying to lighten up my 57" P-40 because I had to add 3/4 of an once to one side of the wing for balancing. and as of now to balance the length I have 1.1/2 OZ in the cowl right behind the prop. so if I move and mount the battery pack beside the RX, the Pack will be just about centered to the Main Spar. and I could take some weight off from the nose.

maybe I am making too much about this, because I don't see me lighting it up more than just 1 OZ. and 1 OZ is not much. what's yeeA think?

thanks guys!!

The size and density of the battery CAN shield the TX signal if too close to the RX. Does your RX have a remote/aux RX? If so you can put the batt very close to main RX and position the remote RX to get a good signal from all directions. Range check, range check, range check!

""remote/aux RX?"" no I do not have one. I guess I could get one, but that would add weight LOL. they must weigh close to 1/4OZ or a bit more. I always range check. but I have to say, I have never had a range problem here in Vermont. not even with PCM.

thanks Lonnie!
