Default 50cc Power Expander

I haven't seen anything new on this, is it still planned? I saw the photos in the yahoo group and it is something I'd like to put in one of my planes.

We have started ordering parts but my best guess would be May at this point. We are working on getting these out now that the Eq10 is shipping.

Hi,
We are going to build the unit this month. I am just waiting on some final parts to get started. Unless something goes really wrong we should have the PowerSystem Sport Plus ( for use with lithium batteries) out by the end of the month. The PowerExpander Sport Plus (for use with NiCd/NiMH) out by the end of June.

Hi,
Here are a couple pictures. The name on the unit is wrong, it took a while to decide on one. The units are eight channel units, have two servo outputs per channel. They support two batteries in with protection from shorts and dead cells. The inputs are standard R/C connectors. The regulator is fixed at 6 volts and is rated at 5 amps continuous power with 10 amp peaks. The Ignition Cutoff is built in and you select your cutoff channel with a jumper from the channel (off the PowerSystem or straight from the receiver) to the Ignition Cutoff control input. The PowerSystem Sport Plus will be $199.95. There will also be a PowerExpander Sport Plus for NiCd/NiMH, no regulator, out in July. Price is not set on that yet.

Hi,
They are being built now, it will probably be about 2 weeks until we ship. The name for the unit with the built in regulator (for use with lithium batteries only) is the PowerSystem Sport Plus and the version that does not have the regulator built in (for NiCd/NiMH batteries) is called the PowerExpander Sport Plus (this will out about the end of the month).

I am on the list to receive a 50cc Sukhoi from Wild Hare sometime around the 12th of June. Are you taking preorders for the PowerSystem Sport Plus yet?

Hi,
We are not taking pre-orders. I really don't believe in this as when something actually gets in stock is unpredictable for numerous reasons. This will be announced on the major giant scale sites and I will announce it here on RCU.

Very nice Mr. Ritchey!!! I really like the idea of having all the needed components in one easy plug and play setup!!!

Hi, i don't understand why the "PowerSystem Sport Plus" will be $199.95 and the actual Flight pack #3 is at $189, is it just the engine cut-off ?

Hi,
Yes, the Ignition Cutoff is $59.95 if bought separately. If you don't want the Ignition Cutoff then you are better off with the Flight Pack 1.

how does this system protect a 2.4 receiver versus just hooking up a regulated battery?

Hi,
There are two ways its better. First the servo power does not go through the receiver bus. This mans that servo high current demands cannot pull the receive bus down to where the recevier will reset. You will find the place where your biggest voltage drop occurs in across the batter connector going into the receiver. The standard R/C connector has a fairly high resistance for a connector. This results in higher voltage drops at higher current. A regulated battery does nothing to help this. Second, we regulate a fixed 5.0V to the receiver from the input (2-cell lithium) and feed that to the recevier so it sees a constant 5.0V irregardless of servo load. The receiver regulator has an additional capacitor on its output to hold the voltage up in case of any spikes on the input to the regulator. Please let me know if you have any other questions.

what is direct servo control (DSC)? what will happen if I plug any of the pig tails into the battery slot or possibly the binding slot on a 2.4 receiver. The receiver is a JR R921 9 channel? thanks.

Hi,
Direct Servo Control (DSC) allows you to control your servos from the transmitter without turning your transmitter on. This is done by supplying power through a special cable from the system to the transmitter which powers the CPU in the transmitter but not the RF deck. This allows you to setup your servos at the field without turning your transmitter on.

If you plug any of the pigtails into the battery slot of a JR receiver the receiver will go dead, it will not listen for the signal on the antenna but will look for an input signal through the DSC lead on the battery port. Plugging a pigtail into the battery slot of a 2.4GHz receiver will put it into bind mode and never let it out.

Hi,
You could but when the batteries get below 6.5V the servo voltage will start to drop with the battery drop, when the batteries get to 6.0V the servos will see 5.5V. For A123 batteries I recommend the PowerExpander Sport Plus. It does not have a regulator in it but this is just fine for most servos. The receiver still sees 5V.

Hi,
You can only use 7.4V (2-cell) lithium packs with the PowerSystem Sport Plus. Using 11.1V lithium packs will overheat the regulator and possibly cause it to fail.
Let me know if you need any other information.

The battery to be used with the PowerSystem Sport Plus could be from Thunder Power, like
TP 7,4v 2100mAh.
Thank You

Hi,
Any 7.4V (2-cell) pack is fine. You just need to get it with a standard R/C connector.
