RE: HK Small Bolt Hydro same as HOTR
Ooooh-weee T-Shane, you sho' is hard on them boats! Well, nothing a little bailing wire and duct tape can't fix. Wonder what the I.D. of that pretty purple strut is? Looks to be a good candidate.
Nickster, the Octura x435 is the largest in their line for a 1/8" shaft. Those larger are for a 3/16" shaft. And I think if you try the 35mm version you'll likely cook something, so do it briefly and check temps! You might want to look into a bearing strut for more speed.

Too right but I aint gettin in that pond without the man and boat !
sdz - look what I found....
[link=http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Tube-NMB-Precision-Sealed-Miniature-Bearings-1%2f8%22x-1%2f4%22_W0QQitemZ350241503919QQcmdZViewItem?rvr_i d=226523365570&rvr_id=226523365570&cguid=a8942afb12d0a0aad5127752ff54ad0c]1/8" ID 1/4" OD Bearings[/link]
I measured the OD of the rear end of the strut to be 7.2 mm so this might be the one. Only thing is that the etti strut uses 2 bearings, 1 front 1 rear of strut. For this to work I can only use 1.
What do you think ?

Rake: If you can bore the strut out to 1/4", then you're home free. What you use is a flanged bearing at the rear and you'll cement a regular bearing inside at where the rear of the bushing is right now. I've got a supplier for both. Since you will be getting that purple kit, you'll have another to experiment with. And the one in the kit might have a larger hole - you'll have to wait and see.
msmail: Clean looking job there! And you say it seals well? That's a lot easier than taping it all up, and you can get inside faster if it's smoking! If you're flipping the boat a lot, move the battery all the way to the left side and it will settle down. The motor torque is flipping it whenever it gets airborne. Nice job.

Sundogz: Thanks for the tip on battery placement. The octura 430 prop ,larger than stock, put the boat on plane now, incresed speed probably 15 mph. Have over 30 runs. I have been lubing the cable with WD 40, water displacing 40 after every run which NASA developed, never taking the cable out. Still no water leaks. After I run motor and esc are cool and battery warm. Ordered premium 25C batteries can't wait to try them.

You're quite welcome. Any increase in 'C' rating will result in noticeably faster speed in this boat. It will handle a 32mm prop but watch temps. I use WD40 for many things around here - it's good stuff. Never heard of using it in a stuffing tube - usually want grease to help keep out water intrusion, but I suppose if even air can't leak out, then water can't get in. Good to know.

Small bolt number 1 has been recovered from the depths and the experience was horrible.
Dead rats in the pond and the water was over head height. Will post pics later. Hull split half way along.
Due safety was used. Had a dry suit on and was tethered by a climbing rope. Not recommended for the feint hearted

Bravo!! Sounds like it was a horrifying experience. [:'(] Reason enough for a shot of tequila. Yes, post pics please. Do you suppose after a proper amount of drying time that anything will survive such a soaking? Jolly good job!

If the hull motor and servo make it then I may have two boats in a while.
I went in with a broom pole and at the last moment before giving up I found it and got it between my feet and out. At the very least I'll have a new rudder. The hull fix will be a challenge. Pics later will reveal .
Bass that looks like a nice motor. Time for another coupler ? What cells would you use ?

I have block sanded the sponson bottom, sides, and ends for sharp corners also the entire hull. Do you think this will help with speed? 35 plus runs still no water. I'm lucky to have a 1/2 + acre pond but I have a cold and it's raining or I would run in the rain. I also run nitro boats but the field equipment and maintenance are a killer.

Crisp edges and finely sanded wetted surfaces are nothing to sniff at. You can observe a measurable increase of speed with this special attention to detail. I'm hoping someone obtains a small gps with which to record actual speeds of these micro rockets.
Rake, you might as well tear it down completely. I have a feeling you'll be needing more parts sometime soon!

You may be right sdz but may try for two bolts, one 2s one 4s. All depends on the hull repair. Still intend to post the pics later.
Bass, will sort payment today.

Two Small Bolts are better than one! Give you someone to race against!
Set one up 3S with the Tacon Motor. Or try that Tenshock motor on 3S and hang on to your pants!

Well you can swap hatches and have one pretty boat, and one to scare the onlookers with. Gotta say, when you crash 'em you do a thorough job. Better buy some more epoxy....

Good to hear about the motor and the servo. Maybe now is a good time to look into putting bearings in a strut? It will need to be drilled out to a tight 1/4". Something to consider anyways.

Not a bad idea at all. Do you think that the rear bearing needs to be flanged or will a regular suffice ?
I have 2 coming already but they are unflanged.
I am also considering separating the top and bottom halves of the smashed hull to effect abetted repair by classing the inside up good and strong but am as yet undecided.

You could get by with a non flanged bearing by cementing it in place. That's a good idea to open the hull completely to gain access for repairs. But putting it back together would be a challenge!
