Default new boater ! M-11 question ?

New to the boating world, Been flying helicopters on the 2.4 for three years, With no problems. Has anyone used the airtronics M-11 for gas boats. I just purchased a WHH team pro and a M-11, But i have read a few posts on problems with 2.4. Input Please ?

I've never tried the M-11 in a boat, but I know for a fact that Futaba's 2.4ghz systems work well.

Thank you for your response, It's a very high end radio that i recieved on a trade and not sure about the 2.4 problems i have heard about with " Water Reflection" Hoping to keep it, and run my gas boat. So to be sure i ordered a ignition kill system if the radio looses contact. Don't want a 20 lb missle screaming across the lake. I have flown 2.4 systems in my helicopters but not so confident in boats yet. Thank You !

Just keep to the recomended voltage. It does not like anything less loses range like nothing. from 80m down to 10m.

I believe the M11 2.4Ghz uses frequency hopping like the FASST system and the M11 had no problems.

I would try that M11 before spending money on a lesser FM system.

The boat has been run with the M-11 and the claim is he had no such problems, But i am a bit concerned about the issues pertaining to so called "Water Reflection" So maybe i will dig a little deeper before i sell this jewl of a radio. Thank you for your input.

You are correct ! It uses channel hopping and works very well upto 3000' on the water. Great now i don't need to buy a new radio. Thank You !

id like to know what you are doing that i am not?? i have a m8 and a new m11 2.4 ..my m8 is on 27 band and is reliable as the day is long. the m11 is very, very short on range ..no matter what reciever "i have 8" ,what hull " i have several"i even tried it in my buddys rigger withthe same results..so to make my point this was on a 1/4 mile race course and i could not go but maybe 200-300 feet off the inside bouy to mill and it would go into failsafe.. tried it with the antenna in and out of the radio box .. no difference. and they are not the same setup as futaba fasst i belive i think they are dhss and the futaba is fhss..let me know your techniqe as i love the radio, hate the range.

I have no claim to the distance ability of the M-11, That 3000' range is claimed by Spektrum on there web site. I have two SR3000 RX and the M-11. All i know is i need to get to the bottom of the claims, That it's no good for Water application. Some folks say i have seen many people use it with no problem then the next guy claims it is way to dangerous to use. Very frustrating to say the least. Here i have a radio that is considered by reviewers to be one the best they ever tested, and i can't even use it in a boat. It's crazy ! []

BRRRRPT Wrong,

the Airtronics FHS3 uses frequency hopping the M11 module is DSSS the same as spektrum. I don't know why they did this???

I run an M11 with spektrum on my boats and will fill you in a little.

I have had no problems running the Pro module with a Pro receiver and a capacitor plugged in with good batteries (charged). I have had failsafe issues with the stock (light grey) receivers - DON'T USE THEM. I also have the Airtronics 2.4 module, but as yet have not had a chance to test it in a boat. Once I test it I'll let you know.

As for range, I have no range issues with mine, but I don't run mine a million miles away, as long as I can get my boats around the race coarse that's good enough for me.

If you are looking at buying a new system, I'd recomend the Futaba FASST but seeing as though you have already got the M11, test it, but make sure you CHECK YOUR FAILSAFE first.

Cheers
Jason
