I got 9450 rpm from a APC 14X6 running 20/20 Powermaster at sea level and tweeked it down to 9250 for safety just in case they really do unload another 1000 to 2000 rpm in the air.

It used to be on a Carl Goldberg Super Chipmunk mounted sideways running a 13x6 or 7 APC. I haven't had the valves adjusted because of my "if it aint broke, don't fix it" mentality.

This engine has about 3 gallons thru it and is mounted inverted with a fuel line loop above the mount in a World Models 1/5th Clipped Wing Cub that has yet to be maidened.

My concern is that my low end is not very smooth or consistent below 2500 rpm.

In other words, a noticeable amount of vibration and the idle usually loads up and dies after a minute or so. I have the low end needle at least one full turn in from the factory flush mount settings.

For insurance against it cutting out in the air I have the throttle trimmed to 2650 rpm.

What seems to be the "normal" low end tach readings other owners are getting.

My 82 has got a good idle at ~ 2250. I don't think it has a gallon through it but getting close. 10-15%, 12x10 APC mounted side ways. If I remember, I turned my low speed in more than 3 turns from the factory setting. I knew I went too far when it started to die on transition. Richen the low end to get a good transition to full throttle. The vibration is minimized when the low end it set correctly.

I really wonder if my low end conk outs are due solely to need of needle adjustments?
Are the more diameter the APC's more of a burden therefore rougher to spin than the same size Wooden or smaller diameter "plastic" ones which do run smoother?
I don't recall having these issues when I had this engine in the Chipmunk sideways throwing a 13x6 or 7 smoother. Never any flame outs at idle.
I also have two Saito 100's running at the moment and their spinning 14x8 APC's at around the same 9300 that I'm getting with this 82.
Could it be the 14 diameter is a little much? Or does the shape of the tip or something else compensate for the weight difference and it not matter at all?
I'm very tempted to go with a Wood 15x4 for this Clipped Cub for performance purposes but I'm expecting more conk-outs due to the larger diameter.

MY BAD.

It wound up needing to turn the low end screw another 1/2 turn or so and I wasn't letting the 2500 turn into 22 or 2300 by waiting for 20 or 30 seconds in between revs from high to low.

I'm still planning on trying the wood 15x4 ..... after I get used to the 14x6 and the CG where it is now..

I think my Clipped Cub would use the "pull" while crabbin' and during flat turns.
