If not too thick a good gasket can be made out of coffee filter material. I use a piece of glass and smooth out the filter and apply silicone gasket goo to one side just as thin as I can smooth it on. When dry I do the other side.

I use gasket material that I get from the local autoparts store.

I press the bottom of the cover on an inkpad (like those used for rubber stamps) then press the cover down on the gasket material. This gives me an outline that I can cut carefully around.

Done this a couple of times now and works OK.

You need leak proof gaskets/material for a YS. Anything else works for a short period, then causes engine problems through pressure loss.
Get a packet sent from Central. Save yourself the trouble.
Any other 4 stroke will run with the valve cover removed. Not a YS. Even a screw loosening on the cover can create typical YS headaches... causing you to be checking pumbing, tanks, glow plugs, filters, one way valves, carbs, needles and ultimately posting for help on the forums when the answer was just an allan key turn away.
