My old shop was 24'x40', as result of tearing it down I reused the floor. The new shop has a nine foot ceiling, 8'x24' utility room in the back for yard tools etc. The modeling portion up front is 32' 6" x 24'.

I built a workshop away from the house. It's 12x24 and I was out of space the day I moved in. Here are some of the pictures as it progressed. It has heat/ac/HDTV/DVD/Stereo/phone/computer with Internet...frig.....all of the necessities.

My build room is in the attic over my garage. Roof is build up with rafters not trusses, 8 pitch. Garage is 26' x 33'. Floor area of the build room is 14 x 18'. My build table is 4 X 8 on 6 caster wheels. Mounted a old sliding glass door on the wall for a light table with hinges to fold down out of the way when not in use.

I'm pretty sure it's not healthy to have that much space and organization. 

Throw 15,000 more things in and 75 pounds of sawdust and cobwebs and you should be OK.

While not my workshop, I had the extreme honor to spend a week here last summer working on a Corsair restoration. Ezell Aviation in Breckenridge Texas.

This is such an awesome thread, and I've enjoyed seeing how you guys have managed to arrange your workspaces. My wife is allowing me to have the 2 car garage within our new house (467 sq ft with 11 foot ceilings), and I was wondering what you guys used to layout your workshops. Did you use some sort of software, or just put things together and see what happens? I'm not sure exactly what I'll need within my new workshop, so any advice you can offer would be awesome. I am very interested in becoming a kit builder, so I know a building table will be needed, but not sure about anything else. Also, plane storage is definitely a concern I have as well due to worrying about dust getting in the carbs, so any advice or ideas on this also would be very helpful as well.

Thanks again and looking forward to seeing more workshops and gaining ideas.......

The size of kits you intend to build will help dictate your layout. Small kits can be done on a small bench against a wall while giant scale kits are easier on a bigger table located so you have access to all sides. The bigger you intend to build the more "free" area you will need to move things around. I would put the bench where you want it then place everything around that. Just my 2 cents.

eddiemac you have a beautiful shop and it's full of some nice googies.

saramos, maybe the best of both worlds, you get to work on the real thing in a nice shop, some have all the luck.

Me, well it's a clean mess and I'm working on it. 24' X 30' insulated with 95 % forced air gas furnace, I spend alot of time out there and I have another build on table.

What is that white stuff around your new shop? Nothing like that here! I just built a roll around work bench so I can move my work out of the man cave out into the open studio where my wife teaches Yoga. Nothing like working with a nice view and a breeze. Now on to rebuild on old cub that one of her students somehow managed to de-tail!

Looks like you have your work cut out for ya. I like your view too, all I have to look at is Canfield Mountain, presently snowing up there. Starting to feel and look like winter here.

Santa will come about a month late, for me. But he'll be bringing a Replicator 2 3D printer.

A 3D printer would be really cool to have :)

I think there is an add-on CNC for this but Ialready have a XYZ Movement: 24" x 18" x 4" Shopbot CNC. Just looking to be able to cut larger medal objects.
