Hey Yank, let me know how you make out with the DC-3 after you fix the tail wheel, I'm not so keen on the downthrust, the opposite offset is common though.

I sure will... I will be getting it on video also. The down thrust is actually good... It will allow for longer runway takeoff.

yankphan,

Been following this, all sounds like good info and will do the same to my Dc3. Still fitting the new landing gear and hopefully be ready to fly in the next couple of weeks, best of luck with yours.

If you want cheap priced gear... Call Jeff at tbm.com
he will sell you gear for half the price without the "guts" if you want.. Meaning they'd be in the down locked position. The quality is great.

Hi airega1, I did set up my engines as per the instructions, initially i used the standard landing gear that came with the kit but now in the process of fitting retracts from TBM.

The standard wire gear was very bad bending on every flight, when the model torqued to the left on take off the gear would bend which make taking off imopsible...

I'm still waiting on landing gear from TBM, when did you get your gear? I set up the fixed landing gear and all I could do is laugh, I don't know how ESM could ever expect that gear to hold up the airplane let alone land on it,
Thanks for the reply.

Did Tbm say they were in stock ?
i know that they were in the process of changing all the electric gear to pneumatic. Jeff at tbm kinda put together a set for me without the "guts" so basically they would be stay in the down locked position. He gave me a good deal I couldn't resist. They are perfect. When you guys get your planes up get em on video ! There aren't many esm dc3 videos on YouTube. I will make a video next weekend... It looks awesome with the sullivan smoke pump kicked on showing the twin trails !!

Well I fixed the tailwheel problem with 4-40 rod... Anchored along the way. So nice on its own servo. I can taxi perfect now. Looks like I may fly it Friday... Rain all week.

i didnt fly it yet.
I did put the engines to manual specs. 3 degrees out on left and 4 degrees out on right... Both 3 degrees down.
I fixed my tailwheel .... I put a strong servo on it and used 4-40 rod secured along the way. I can taxi perfect. I also made the landing gear slightly toed in to help track straight. I will get it on video... Get yours on video also please.

yankphan,

Had three flights yesterday with the Dc3. First two take off was straight but third flight it went left and took off. I think its just a matter of throttling up slowly and try keeping it straight with rudder whyle holding up elevator till you get good ground speed then let elevator go.

Finished my second YT (ESM) DC-2 last year not flown yest as I was having the Laser engines overhauled. I will try and post some pics and link to the first YT DC-3 I had. Mine is powered by 2 x Laser 100's and the original one flew like a dream.

Enjoy !

What a shame... I felt the same when I lost my first one... Like you said you know what you did.. opened it up and the torque on the engines rolled her over...You had loads of runway and overshoot to play with and up until the point you opened it up she would have settled... Looks like there was notr that much damage though until you decided to trash the Fuz... You building another one?
