Oh well Take your time as season has officially ended already, no rush.... |

RE: scratch built c130
ORIGINAL: ergocentric OS la engines won't run upside down for very long, I think it's the air bleed carb, the engines are great otherwise. (I tried for half a season the went to a magnum 46 inverted and it worked fine) Air bleed carbs sucks baddd!!!, no wonder i had few dead sticks on one of my engines on B25!! |
RE: scratch built c130
My OS46la that I bought six or so years ago gave me many reliable flights (and I think I only used one or two OS#8 plugs) until I put it on my PT19 and tried to make it run inverted. Other than that I had no plane for it and wanted some smaller engines, so I traded it.
|
RE: scratch built c130
It's better to stay away from these LA's on twin and multi engined air crafts, it's greater risk factor and double or quad times financial loss if airplane goes down due to inferior quality engines!

RE: scratch built c130
ORIGINAL: Props4ever Air bleed carbs sucks baddd!!!, no wonder i had few dead sticks on one of my engines on B25!! Many people have had problems with Saito 72's as I did, and maybe the same solution would work with OS air bleed carbs: add a velocity stack. Unfortunately OS doesn't make velocity stacks (luckily Saito does). |
RE: scratch built c130
oh well just hope you get it running . need any help just let me know. hey if the gas prices keep going down im thinking about running down that way and fly carl
|
RE: scratch built c130
Here's my 2 cents worth. I have an OS 46LA mounted inverted.Had a lot of problems keeping it running, flooding and dying and such. 2 things that really helped me is,I quit trying to choke it. Just turn it over with the starter till fuel is flowing. And the best thing i did for it is is to make a loop in the fuel line.I came off from the fuel tank with a 90 degree fitting, pointing straight up,then looped it back down to the carb and haven't had a problem since. It's cheep and easy and worth a try.

I tried extending 2 stroke mufflers with tubing on previous models & it lead to trouble. No problems with 4 strokes. Perhaps if you are redesigning the nacelles & mounting the engines sideways you can go back to the standard muffler set up & just tuck them into the side of the nacelle like this. This uses OS FP 40's & OS RC 20's, yes, with air bleed carbs. - John.

i have 4 new os 91 on the plane now. scrapped the syncro. changed to os 91's horz mounted.... had to add two news pods for the fuel.. the 91's on first tanks only gave me 6 minutes run time. now i have 32 oz per engine. should keep it in the air 15 min or so....any questions holler at me. |
c130 for sale ,,lost my nerve to fly it.
|
Update got four os 91's mounted horz. I have a 50% increase of thrust and run good 15 min easy.
