just figured out why both mine and my son's XS have been going WOT, the antenna wire came out of the antenna tube and wrapped around the center rear drive shaft breaking the wire. I don't understand why HPI routed the antenna wire to the back of the truck like that.

hello guys this is my 1st post my savage xs is running great and im running it with a 3s 3800 no issues but I just noticed 1 of the turnbuckles is missing you guys no any that would fit i see the ones in the manual but cant find them to buy Part Numbers 6164,102497,93467
try using a turnbuckle from a traxxas slash.. i replace my ball ends with that so it wudnt come off and loose it. lol
Pretty sure Thunderbird used that trick...nice but I think he said the xs pulled the rod end clean off...

Need something with some BEEF!

TBJ....Where you at???
Traxxas 2443 for camber links and tie rods, Blitz/Firestorm for shock rod ends; Traxxas shock rod ends do NOT fit properly into the shock shafts.

t9....What a bummer....BUT I am so glad you posted this. Gives the rest of us slobs a heads up.

tbj...thanks for the clarification. Maybe the TRX rod ends and some short trx camber links will work. I am on the hunt.

Thanks guys...

Hi t9dragon,

When i started mine first time:

- fail safe wasn't working and even following manual procedure to get the led blinking it didn't
- antenna wire was too close to axle so i changed its way to the pipe
- Lipo cutoff wasn't on

Did you fix at least one of them ?

ThunderbirdJunkie is confused about which turnbuckle is missing?

Are you talking about the rod ends for the shocks or what?

Here are some pics of the damage from the WOT run away into a brick wall.

The red dust on the desk was embedded in the hex hole on the screw next to it.

more damage

bent axle

damaged drive cups in upright

broken antenna wire

Yes, I called HPI and they helped me set the failsafe.
I never relealized the antenna ran next to the center driveshaft.
Yes, lipo cutoff was set for auto.

The WOT was because of the damage to the antenna. When the XS's were within 100ft it was fine but outside the 100ft the trucks weren't controlable.

So I will be calling HPI Monday morning to see what they can do since this is obviously something that was a design flaw.

TBJ....you mentioned that you intended on using TRX ball ends and turnbuckles for to replace the stock plastic piece from hpi. Shortly after your installation I recalled you mentioning that solution was a no-go.

Now, maybe I know why...turnbuckles may have been a tad smaller diameter and didn't fit the TRX ball ends.

No biggie...you cleared it all up for those concerned.

GensAce 5000 40C 2S Hardcase...Think people are already using this pack...will need more shimming to fit properly in the box....even with the supplied foam.

Do you have a pic of that lipo in the battery compartment? I am curious once you plug the bullets in if it will still fit in the battery compartment..
I am waiting for the 90 plugs to come in...I'll post up a pic then. No way it'd fit with my current discharge leads...
Here's a pic of the TQ 90 plugs installed....fit very nicely.

Yeh, that was pretty stupid of them.
I won't have to worry about that with my very short 2.4ghz antenna.

Oh.. and tnanks very much for the heads up. That kind of info is very valuable.

I found an easy way to make a ramp. The wife and I were in Home Depot killing time yesterday figuring out what I needed and how much everything was going to cost. When we came across a wood saw horse that when laid on it's side made a ramp. I will post pics of everything latter on today.

HeyT9, how'd you get the failsafe working? I have tried it a milion times with no luck whatsoever, I may just swap in my FASST receiver for my 3PMX.

Actually I now that I think about it, I don't think the failsafe ever set unless because of the antenna issue caused the runaways..

Sounds like HPI support doesn't know what they are talking about. Unless they meant it would cause the lipo to PUFF lol
The ESC can be blown by a low C battery. The lower the C the higher the rippling that occurs. Rippling kills ESCs.

Interesting, never heard of or thought of that. I guess that would be something like a PC on a poor power line with out a line conditioner.

I experienced an extreme example of it.  I bought some bad Turnigy packs (hence me only buying thunderpower batteries since) that rippled badly.  They essentially had a very low C-rating which caused the voltage to drop too much while the battery was discharging into the ESC.  The ESC went on fire within minutes. It happened three times.

I am certain 20C with a large capacity battery is okay.  Its strange they specify a C-rating when they should specify an overall amperage capability.

+1 on the amperage capability comment. these new powerplants in these trucks rip some serious amperage. I guess at least they give a guideline....but they should give the formula or tell you why.
