modded micro rs4 questions
i have a micro rs4 that i am getting a orion core modified motor for. i also want to get some 7.2v ni-mh1600mah batteries for. does this sound like a good combo? what pinion should i have to hit 25-30? will my duratrax blast esc be okay with this motor?

RE: modded micro rs4 questions
i would choose a 11t pinion. the motor can get really hot. i have 7 cell kan batteries but that prolly the reason my motors is heating up. also you should look at one of those 300 speed motors. i forgot what there the same motor as but there way cheaper 15 dollars.

RE: modded micro rs4 questions
I agree with the 11T, the 14T will give you a lot of end speed, but it does place a lot of stress on that motor. The new Trinity Monster Mini would be a great step up also. The motor is well built and easily maintained, just like a grown up Trinity.
But going fast is not everything. The set up of the car is parimount with regards to racing. I altered the battery position and the reciever position on mine, it moved the CG just over 1.0cm forward on the car. This really helped to reduce an oversteer problem I was having with the car in competition.

RE: modded micro rs4 questions
Any standard ESC should be fine as long as it can handle the number of cells you are using.
You prob won't get to 25mph on TO core and 6 cells. It is more likely to only approach 25 if you either have it geared very high - like 14T (but you will prob burn out the motor quickly) or you are using 7+ cells (again will burn out the motor quickly).
Only the speed 300/370 or larger is going to get you there on 6 cells. Non-tuned 300's average around 27mph on 11T pinion and a good 6 cell pack. A tuned 300 or 370 may get you in to the early 30's.
But 20mph is pretty fast on these small scale cars right?

RE: modded micro rs4 questions
ive used 14t with my stock motor for about 25 batterie packs through it. and the motor is perfacly fine. i noticed yoy have to clean each and every little groove in the belt like every 2-3 batteries. that amy be why you motor is geting hot. mine im only using 5 cells too. i put the gps in mine and it went 26.3 mph. so check your belt. my motor got hot too when i got a bunch of stuff in my belt but when i cleaned the grooves its fine. it also wont look like there theres anything in the belt but there is. just take a tooth pick or something and run it through a couple of the grooves and see what comes out.

RE: modded micro rs4 questions
Chase, was a bit surprised to hear you got 26mph on stock with 5 cells. Do you mean Kmph? This figure sounds correct if you are measuring in kmph and not mph.
This is because of the motor's rpm per volt. At 5 cells (or 6V) I don't think it can physically generate enough rpm for 26mph? I dunno maybe you got lucky?
I read that stock motors can reach around 20mph on 6 cells.
I run 2 micros - one with rear ball diff and one with stock. I found the ball diff made little difference. I currently use a speedchecker and convert from kmph into mph.
My figures so far (7.2V):
Elite TO coreless 23mph on 13T
HPI 45T mod 20mph on 9T
Speed 300 (non-tuned) 27.5mph on 11T
Ruby Tuned 370 33.75mph on 11T.
These were more or less the same on both cars - maybe only 1-2mph difference perhaps accounting for drag in the driveline as you quite rightly mentioned.
Check out yourmicro.com or one18th.com for general figures. They have lots of info on the BRP and Mini-T too so it is worth checking anyway.
Who knows AllisonMO2 you may change your mind about selling the micro when you read these forums... it's a great car indoors or outdoors. With the right motor/hop-ups you can go faster than most RTR 1/10th electric cars.

RE: modded micro rs4 questions
i mostly use it in my living room as a cat toy! you'd be suprised to see how much fun it is to tie a string with one of their mice with a bell on the tail and run them in circls around a coffee table. the only problem is i have two steps down to the kitchen and i want something that can ramp back up the steps. i don't think it would be too good for my car so i want a mini-t now. same fun and i don't have to get up to put it in the kitchen and back. plus when it goes above freezing here again i can make a little track in my backyard like the other guy here did.

Haha, nice cat story.
We have a parrot in our flat and when he was still a baby he used to run to me (wings clipped) for help when I drove it in the flat. Now he just attacks it and ruins my paint job so I don't drive it near him anymore.
