breaking in a mini-max
I just bought a reedy mini-max modified motor for my rc18b. I'm looking for an opinion as to if I should break it in or not since you supposedly get 10-20% more power. If so, I'm looking for a how to site or something similar, since I don't know much about rebuildable motors.
thanks

ok quick question though, how do you open up a mini-max to check the brushes and things? Is there a special tool?

Do not take apart the motor!!!!!!! Breaking in electric motor is not worth the time. The correct way would be to hook a 3-4 volt battery to the motor and dip the motor in a glass of water to seat the brushes to the com. This is how you would do it but its not gonna make a big difference and dout you would ever notice any changes.

RE: breaking in a mini-max
opps... sort of... before these last two posts were here, I went to Radio Shack today and bought a 2 AA battery holder today(holds two AA batteries and has a black and red wire attached). I did similar to the link I posted earlier by hooking the wires directly to my motor. I went through 4 sets of batteries and it ran for 3 hours just to be safe. I sure hope I broke it in! otherwise what a big waste of time.
I initially wanted to know how to take the motor apart so I could check the brushes for any signs of break in, I didn't though. I also wanted to know that way I could look and see if and when the brushes go bad.

on that motor over each brush is a spring if you bend the spring towards the com it will slide off andthen the brush can be taken out to see it.Trying to breading in the motor by running it for 3 hours only did one thing, give u 3 less hours of runtime on the motor.
