with the mamba you can use a computer if you buy the link ( $20 i think) or program it by listening to diferent souds and ligths and awsering the questions with your transmiter, full brake=no, full throttle= yes, it is very easy.
With the quark you have to program it by pushing a button in the side of the case and selecting different ligths with the trasmiter. ( can be very difficult sometimes)
In my opinion it is much much easier programing the mamba ( I have both) but the quark has more advanced progaming features. I personaly dont have the mamba USB link, but some people say that the mamba has more programing features if you use the link and that is waayyy easier than awsering questions. just my 2 cents.

Hmm.....I cant understand how one could possibly have trouble programming them, Ive owned both and they are both super easy.
Hard? All you do is hold the program button and turn the ESC on. As for basic and advanced modes, you have to setup BOTH. You cant just setup one mode and ignore the other. If thats what your doing I can see why your having problems.
It's hard to get the quark into program mode.

[:@].....I bet I know why your having problems. I had it set up for Li-Po cells with the low voltage cutoff enabled.
