HS-65MG screw size?
I need a longer screw for this servo so I can use the servo saver for an 18b. I have looked everywhere and have been to 3 hobby shops and they couldn't tell me what it was. It's an odd ball.[:@]
I had the car working without a servo saver but hit a board going through a high speed section of the track. I broke the 'current' servo arm and a tooth off of one of the metal gears.[X(]

RE: HS-65MG screw size?
Well, after a ton of searching, this is what I now know about this servo-
*They don't make a servo saver for the hs-65mg.
*The servo saver for a hs-56mg will fit the hs-65mg but the screw size is not the same. The hobby shops I have been to said they're the same and will work. NOT EXACTLY
*tower says the screw size is this- (1) 1.7 x 3mm servo horn screw. I think the screw size is the same as the 81 but not sure.

That's about it. So I have the servo saver and everything I need. The only thing i'm looking for now is, i'm guessing, this- (1) 1.7 x 3mm servo horn screw. I have the screw that came with the servo but it is to short to use with a servo saver. I need that screw but longer.
I will continue searching tomorrow and will probably call HiTec or something. I would really like to be able to drive my new 18b sometime soon.

I couldn't be more confused right now. I got everything from a 1.6mm to a 2.7mm. I had someone at our LHS call HiTec yesterday and they say it is a 2.3mm (it's their servo, they should know). They have the longer screws and are sending 5 of them. Can't wait. Hopefully they'll work.

My recommendation is to get a little screw kit for about $10-20 bucks. Duratrax makes a nice one. Keep it on hand for times like these. Though I do notice this set doesn't have anything less then 2mm.

RE: HS-65MG screw size?
i had the same problem, found out that it is a 2.3mm fine thread. i found them at maryland metrics 1-800-636-1830 (they only have it in straight srewdriver head, and its too long, but you can cut it off as needed). if the ones you have coming dont work let me know, ill stick one in an evelope and mail it to you. also the rc18t-hitec servo saver works, but you have to put one of the metal servo saver springs from an xray m18 pro servo saver around the plastic one that associated makes, this takes the slop out.

RE: HS-65MG screw size?
Thanks John,
I'll let you know how it goes. We have 4 of these servos now. They were fairly cheap at an AMA convention last weekend. As soon as we get everything worked out, we're going to stick them in the 18's.
My dad used part of a mini-t shock spring for the servo saver and it also works great, no slop.

RE: HS-65MG screw size?
Well, we checked again today and the screws never came in. The guy at the LHS informed us that he had called HiTec again and they are now sending more, I guess. Doubt we will ever see them.
We ended up buying a 2.5mm screw tap and some locktite. Problem solved.[>:]
I was a little hesitant to do anything custom like this, but we took the gear out and drilled it and it worked fine. You do need locktite if you are going to do this. I've been running it 2-3 times a day this week and it works, great little servo. Thanks again spicedcrab, you were our next and last resort. We even called the number you gave and it said they moved to another location or something.
