Default rc18mt troubling

hey
i just chaged the stock motor in my 18mt for a reedy mini mod 19t motor.
after about 5 minuts of run time the motors temperature is 200f and the esc is 135f.
is this normal? if not what should i do to prevent it.i thought about putting in a heat sink.
is this a good idea?thanks

Heat sink and maybe some holes in the front of the body should help. The highest I would let that motor get to is 180, which is still pretty high.

Protect the electronics next time. I would try throttle trim first, but I bet you screwed up you receiver, esc, and servo. Easily 100 for newer better parts.

The servo seems to be working fine and I unplugged the reciever and the motor but the ESC still displays the red and the green leds. GThen I just plugged the motor back in and fired it on to try the throttle trim but the ESC started smoking big time. I guess thats the probelm then?

The stock esc is pretty crappy anyway. Mine went up in smoke because I landed a big jump.[&:] I think it's because I also drove it in the snow, unprotected and with no body on.[&:]

Ya, I had read about the crappy stock ESC though I've ridden this one like I stole it for the last month. SO just to clarify so I don't replace the wrong thing. When I unplu the motor I can turn the truck on and adgust the throttle trim back and forth between red/ green and both LEDs so it appears to be working, but then when I attach the motor up and turn it on the thing just revs up and the esc starts smoking. Thats the ESC right and not some kind of motor short or something?

I would upgrade em both to like a mambe 4200 or something, but it's your choice.

I just read in the thread above this one that the 19T motor is not recommended for the MT on AE official site:

http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/fb.asp?m=5267718

They say the tires are too big and recommend the 19 stump puller motor that has more torque.

That may be the problem with the excessive heat.
