its a duratrax vr3 with a mini quake heat sink. i took the label off the can and also drilled holes in the heat sink so it dosent block the holes on the motor.... the vendetta has a 380 size stock motor, it does not have replaceable brushes and i have not found a 380 size motor with replaceable brushes

atomic makes a 380 motor, but i bought it and its smaller that the vr3 so i never even tried it out, its like the size of mini mod motors for mini-t's. also the atomic one has a 2mm shaft size, the vr3 is 2.3mm i think

once i can get someone to video for me ill have some track footage

Hey all- quick update on the brushless motor replacement. Jaejw replaced his GH 4700 Air Power brushless for the Multiplex Permax 400/4D motor, and raved aboout it's performance. Well, I just replaced my Air Power with the same motor last night. I knew I was in for a treat when I got the Permax box and the instructions were written in German! Also, the shaft is very difficult to spin due to the neodymium magnets. It is not a free-spinning motor like the GH4700 or the Mambas.

Anyway.... After soldering on the bullet connectors and installing it with the 19T pinion, all I can say is.... OMG!!!! This thing is flat out sick! Tons, and I mean tons, of low throttle torque!! One thing that threw me off at first- it is not a free roller, so the grinding sound I was getting when I tried to roll the car made me think that I did not have good gear mesh- so I spent an hour trying different motor/pinion placements. Turns out that the motor is just really hard to turn when off-power!! Once it gets the juice, it's as smooth as butter. Jaejw- did you notice this as well??

I can't wait to get this on the track. I am running 2S Lipo, and I was literally shredding my front yard with this battery. I can't wait to see what happens when I throw in my 3S Lipo....

Anyway, Jaejw, thanks for the continuing excellent documentation you've been posting on the Vendetta experience, and for all your suggestions on setup!

This thing rocks!

That thing can draw 35amps!!! Are you using a Quark?

By the way, I thought all Mambas had permanent 2 pole Neo magnets.

When you compare it to a GH you are comparing a 5,200kv 35amp motor to a 4,700kv 25amp. It better be faster!

Yes, Quark 33 Pro Car.

Yes, Mamba is 2 pole Neo. The Permax is a 4 turn hand wound, and the rotational resistance is just incredible without the juice.

And yes, it should be faster on the top end (5200 vs 4700), but it's the low end that's special. It is also twice the price of an Air Power 4700.

Thanks!

Expensive...but not if you compare it to what brushless used to cost just a few years ago....especially for the larger scale cars. I recall people putting $1000 dollars into their brushless systems! It amazes me that you can now pick up low end brushless systems for $70 bucks that will overpower a 1/18th car. The 4WD trucks really benefit from a larger motor. The least expensive larger canned engine I've seen is a 30 amp $40 3800kV UltraFly (if I recall.) Sounds like you got yourself a winner there.

DARINDOTSON.. did you notice the motor temp..

Yes- after a full Lipo pack, running it pretty hard, the can temperature was 100 F with 19/45 gearing. The thing acted like it was barely breaking a sweat at all... this is one sweet motor, and I was very impressed with the Air Power too (still am)- but it's on a whole different level.

Yes, I'm also amazed at how affordable it's getting now. I think the reason more people don't know about this motor is because it was designed specifically for brushless airplanes- as was the GH 4700.

Thanks!
