Default A 540 motor in a MLST2?!?!

Well, due to the troubles of using two smaller motors in such a big truck including overheating and worn brush's. I am considering putting a 540 motor into my MLST2, ill do it by removing the motor mount and fabricating a new aluminium one big enough to hold the motor seady on one side of the truck, placing all my electronics to the side/very rear of the truck and buying a 6 cell 7.2 volt Ni-Mh (but the size made for the 1/10 cars, i think its called "C" size[&:]) and squeezing it in on the other side of the motor. OR, i will use a decent Li-Po battery.
I will get some of the "Firm" springs for all-round, and build some sort of motor guard to protect the big ***** motor. Ill pick up a half-decent, re-buildable brushed motor for around $20-$30.

If im right it should all just fit it and work well, but i do need some advice on how i should go about this and some advice on making the custom mounts. also weather you think its a good idea or not. I also need to know if the stock ESC can handle the 540 motor and the bigger battery pack or if i need to get a new one. Im trying to spend as little as possible BTW....

Cheers everyone!!

Good Luck....................

Why not just go brushless?

It's pretty much a no go on the MLST. It's been done, but the diffs will not take the power, and no matter how you try you will find it nigh on impossible to fit the necessary 6 sub-c cells (conventional mini cells won't run the 540 properly) on the chassis. The only place you can fit the motor can is above the spur on a mount. This also makes the truck really top heavy.

I suggest you follow the crowd and go brushless, however I hope you don't and build something that really works.

What about using a single 400/480 brushed motor? Anyone tried that? These can handle up to about 100W in planes, I would think that something like a permax 450 turbo would be easier to fit on the chassis and still be able to run on 2/3A cells.

If you do decide to do it, you will need a different ESC.

Off-Topic: I thought you left for good divine

i think that you should go with a 400, it wouldn't be hard to fit and you could probably use stock batteries with decreased runtime

If I had to do it again I would go with the direct drive outrunner setup.

think this through... you have a trick now that weighs what, 25 ounces? by going to a 540 motor and sub c cells, you will probably double that wight.... you will need stiffer springs to keep from bottoming over bunps and jumps, so it will ride like crap when you aren't jumping.... fine something that weigs..... go with a brushless and you will have a much more powerful, lighter, and longer running truck...

Just get a brushless motor for the Mini-LST and use the brushless ESC from the Mini Baja.

Im interested in that brushed motor. How much bigger is than stock? Also will it pull a big car like the MLST2 ok??
Cheers.
