Default Need Help Shimming the Diff....

I have a micro DT. I put a 3 racing alum gear box on today and the diff stopped working shortly after. I read here on RCU that this happened to someone else. The solution was to shim the diff. Can anyone explain how to do this for a newb? I have a new diff on the way, my LHS was out. Thanks

You need a 4 mm i.d. shim between the bearing and the diff output gear . I belive I used an axel spacer from the RC18T stub axel drivepin kit .

Are you shimming the bearing with that? Or the diff itself?

The wheels will only turn when the air. The pinion gear on the motor and slipper gear are turning but the axles are not (under load). When I installed the gearbox, my diff came out in two pieces. Is this normal? Or was it damaged before? From KROs post it sounds like the little gear just above the diff gear? Or in the diff itself? not sure.

Are you sure your slipper is tight enough?

No ! The shim goes on the diff itself , between the bearing and the diff output gear .

I have the same 3 racing gearbox and shimmed it. Then it was to tight and would not spin so I took it out then the gear stripped.

I used the assoiated stub pin axel kit to shim it, and I put it in between the bearing and the gear like you said.

Im confused.

papa , youre only using ONE shim right ? Mine was a little tight too when I first put it together , but in a few runs it was smooth as silk .

I havent had to rebuild for a long time now and I went to a brushless system a few weeks ago and still no problems .....
