Scoundrel revisited....with Bernie's throttle

RE: Scoundrel revisited....with Bernie's throttle
Thanks for the great info Tee Bee. I'm still pretty new to this, but I'm impressed that the folks from Cox International read and [i]respond to these threads. I'm ordering a Cox .049 RC Flyer this week for a scaled down Buzzard Bombshell.

RE: Scoundrel revisited....with Bernie's throttle
I took the Scoundrel out this morning for several flights. This time I replaced the 6x3 with a 5x3 rubber ducky. Idle performance was about the same, very reliable. Peak rpm was a bit higher with the smaller prop as you would expect, though I didn't have my tach with me. I was surprised, however, that the model didn't seem to fly any faster than it did with the larger prop. I was barely able to nurse it through a loop even after diving for some speed. With the 6x3 it had little trouble and overall acceleration and climb was better. I found that the Scoundrel loves to fly around low and slow at 1/3rd throttle and trims out nicely for some slow passes, just gurgling and popping away. That's been a new and fun 1/2A experience for me. I completed at least 6 landings under power including a couple of touch and goes. Overall, I flew 3 tankfulls with lots of throttle useage and no flameouts.
This is not the right mod for someone who's looking for all-out speed and performance from their Surestart but on the right model, it provides a laid back 1/2A flying experience with new options. Not many folks have seen a Cox powered model taxi out, fly, and taxi back in.
I give this throttle a solid Thumbs Up. Thanks to those who helped bring it onto the market!

RE: Scoundrel revisited....with Bernie's throttle
Thanks for posting your test results Tee Bee.
We have had lots of great customer feedback in regards to our throttle.
They have been so popular that we briefly ran out of them and had to do another parts run.

Huh...interesting. I've been pondering one of these little engines for some time now, but wasn't sure how well it throttled. Seems it throttles quite well, although throttle response does leave a bit to be desired. Still, given the size of the engine, I now officially want at least one.
I may get two with head B, put one in a coreflute parkie, and put the second in my 1/18 stadium truck. That thing eats batteries...

378,
Please keep in mind that this is but a $15 piece. A full carburetor would cost way more, such as the $35 TD RC carbs we sell for 049-051 engines.
For $15 it's a heck of a value for what it does
Cheers
Bernie

Yeah, I know, that's why I don't care that the throttle response is soft....still crisper than my friend's full scale car
My main concern was getting a stable, relatively low idle, and it seems to do exactly that. So I'd definitely buy it, along with head B and an OS A3 plug.
