Default Cox .020 Glow heads are now available!

We now have Cox .020 glow heads in stock:

The combustion chamber was designed for the Tee Dee version but they will make Pee Wee engines really perform

That's very good news.
Just out of curiosity, who are making these heads, Merlin?

The heads were manufactured by a model engine company in Shanghai.

Was there a difference between the Pee Wee and the Tee Dee heads? I never was able to see a difference.

There was a high compression head made for the TD 020.Sadly Estes while they were cheapening everything in sight just stopped making them and you got a PeeWee head on the TD. It's good that estes is out of the model airplane business.

Who knows what was the part# for the original .020 / TD head? All the instruction sheets I have show #1302.

Can't help you with the part number. I don't even have a head. But you'll know you have one. It has the same ridged ring around the top of the plug as the 049 high compression [plug. Since it hasn't been available for about 20 years it is no suprise that the part number is long gone.
Perhaps Larry Driskol can help us here.

Big Al,

Cox used to make a high compression 020 head for TD engines. In the 90's they stopped making that one and used the regular head on their TD's. It was slightly modified to make it more like the TD one.

Ours is modelled on the old TD version and actually outperforms the high compression one Cox once made.

Bernie,

First, I'd like to say that it is great that you are offering this part to help keep the .020's running!

Regarding the original use of high and low compression heads on .020's:
Many early Pee Wee's ORIGINALLY came with HIGH compression heads.
Towards the end, both Tee Dee .020's and Pee Wee's came with LOW compression heads.

This was discussed here quite some time ago:
http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_20...tm.htm#2091648

Bottom line: I think offering .020 heads in only the high compression version was a good choice.
