Default New go-fast 1/2A toy..

Hooray, they are finally available! Profi .049 speed with pipe. Cost about the same as a TD .020 in the box (today, I mean ). I have one on the way, that makes it time to build the full monty 1/2A RC dedicated speed ship. Not sure I can slap it in the Toucan due to the need to clear the pipe.. but we'll see. Gotta grab some single blade props.

You likely won't see much but bench runs for a while. My ambitious project is a miniature F3 speed design wrapped around this engine, so this means a fuselage plug and mold etc. But if I can drop it in the Toucan even hanging out in the breeze, I'll do that for sure!

I guess I'll have to make a 3" diameter bench prop - maybe there's enough left of the prop I dorked last fall.

It's the same guy I got it from. He advertises on the auction site but you can just order from him direct. He and Bill Hughes are the only Profi importers I know of.

Those are the only decent photos I can find. Based on the proto/FF version, I have a lot of confidence in this engine or I wouldn't take the financial risk. After all, they know how to make really good F2A motors.

Figure 42-45k.

That might be the one I get, I placed the first order. There are more. I'd sell things (my wife saw me eyeing the china cabinet) to get another one.. been waiting for it for two years.

I wonder how that engine would handle a RC carb.

Rig it with a fuel line pinch off to kill it.

I think an rc carb would be more of a shutoff than a throttle. They have to be run very rich. The rich ground setting is usually hard enough to get in the air. I wonder if the manufacturer carries some props, or recommends some. The combat props are normally fairly standard, and this is meant for something else. I would think a higher pitch would be the norm for it? Interesting project in any case.

I got my piston and liner set from them at techno-hobby. Took a while because they had to special order it, but it did come.

I still havn't flown my two profi .06's yet, been out of the plane too much for the last two years, but now that I've moved across the country to a small town I think its going to be time to get the loud and fast little guys out again.

Can't wait to see what you do with this!! videos please!

I started making a 1/2A pipe mold from a CS one. I thought maybe making one from a candle, and wrapping it with some kind of fiberglass or carbon fiber and a high heat epoxy, using an aluminum head pipe might work. I have other projects now, so it is way back on the back burner. Some sort of Mousse can or even a small car pipe may serve the purpose to a point. It won't set any records, but may get the desired effect.

As a pure CL speed engine I expect the exhaust timing to be well north of 180 degrees - what, 190-192? - and I doubt it would think too much of running at other than WFO. Not sure. Expensive test subject!

I bet the proto speed/FF version would throttle fine. You can get them for about $175 I think.
