Default New "clean" version of the LS

Clean as in shape....not anything to do with fuel.
The incidence has been removed and the "B" bulkhead lowered some.
I hope Al Clark doesn't mind me borrowing the nose and tail fin from his "Gopher"

I should have it built in about a week!

.....well I have been able to fly the original size with EP for around 10 min per flight, But It still has a firewall for the LS150 size with engine. It was kinda hard to learn to fly this thing with the 80 second run time of the TD .010. I'll leave the little TD to the experts like Dickeybird and MatchlessAero. Al's Gopher gave me some ideas for the LS.

I can see this leading to an updated LS150 with .074 power and ailerons.

How can I talk someone out there with CAD knowledge into redrawing that with newer radio equipment. I have the original design and some I have downloaded, but they are still the really old drawings.
You have done a lot with that one Lynn, and it looks so good I would like to see the whole thing done with the newer gear included.
Just a thought,

Thanks Mr Flyer,
I could have used some white out and painted the old gear out, like I did the tail fin. The useful part is that the wing has been leveled. This is just cut outs pasted in place.
I started building the fuse last night and it looks like a different plane altogether. The stubby nose is gone! I'm going to round off the wingtips to match the horizontal stab and add an extra bay to each side. I don't think anyone would recognize it as a LS.
I cut out a set of wing ribs tonight and should have the wing built tomorrow night.
If you want to see a more modern drawing very much like the LS ask Al Clark to send you an Acrobat file of his Gopher. The fuse is similar to the one I have here. The main difference is the sheeted balsa wing. Maybe Al can take this cleaned up version and redraw it.
I'll post a picture when I have it framed up. It is so cute, I can't stand it.

Thanks John, Now you got me to thinking.......
It's not really my design, but it does need a new name.......How about Pogo Stick????....77 Sunset Strip Stick????......Rawhide Stick????.....Maverick Stick??....Little GTO Stick???.....I don't think anyone has thought of that one.....I'll think of some more. If you can come up with any names, post them.

Hey, Little GTO already has a theme song....I like that.[8D]

Since you sized the plane up how about Little Big Stik? Maybe that name would work for your 150% enlarged version.Just a thought. :-)

EGB,
I think you are on the right track. I remember a movie called Little Big Man......, but Big Stick has been used several times.....It could be Bigger Littlest Stick.....naw....

I've just had a fash......there was a band back in the mid 60s called the Yardbirds..........well, I fly this plane in my front yard, so it is kinda like a yard bird...ok forget the stick name.

What do you think about calling it....the Yardbird....?

i like "yardbird"... the new design doesn't reflect the "stik" name...it don't even look like a stik anymore...

how about

junebug
honey bee
mosquito
gnat
dragonfly
butterfly
termite (i think they have wings)

I still like a little on the nose, but here is the Yardbird Jr. with a 21.75 inch span and 4.75 inch chord.
The 150% size will be the Yardbird
Whatch think about it...??

Jboy, Glad you like the name...I can't believe that name has not been used before, but there weren't any called that on the RCM plan page. Maybe Eric Clapton won't mind if I use it.

Lynn --

I had not noticed before, but the center section of the wing makes a very nice cabin on the fuselage -- I really like the lines on this one.

Andrew, All it would take for a cabin is to lower the hatch and firewall in front of the wing and slope it to the wing to make a windshield. I'm thinking I need to slide the horizontal stab up and make the elevator even with the rudder. That will split the elevator, but I think it will look nicer.
Thanks, Lynn

Lynn --

A little black trim on the front 20% of the center section leading edge and fuselage sides would be all you would need to give the impression of windows -- the shape looks great the way it is. I also agree with your idea to move the stab forward and split the elevator.

The SIG Kadet, Senior and Seniorita series used the one piece elevator extended behind the rudder. Admittedly, it was an easier build, but I preferred those with the stab forward and split elevator.

Are you going to provide us with a plans outline when you finish?[8D]

I like it, seems there's no end to the tweaking that can enhance some of these designs.
Great Job, makes me want to get busy and get one on the table.

I don't have a way to make the plan into a file, but I will be happy to mail a copy of the fuse sides and tail fins. Just PM your mailing address to me.
Thanks, Lynn

Sorry Lynn, I gotta report you to the M.A.N.P. (Model Aircraft Naming Police) I built the 1st Yardbird way back in 1984. I still have and fly it! 330 sq. in, OS .15, great flier. Has flown on skis, floats, off the beach and out over the Gulf of Mexico at Gulf Shores, AL.

(Just kiddin, Yardbirds's a fine name! Great minds work alike.)
