.049 Cox Question
Hi frends,
I got a .049 Cox engine. Don't know what model , but it has a small tank ( white plastic) on the buttom , which couls turn left and right ( just a little ) I start the engine and it ran out of fuel just in 10-15 seconds.
Is that noraml?
How can I get a bigger tank? which model should I get? Does external tank work with this cox engines?
Thanks,
Patrick

RE: .049 Cox Question
Hi Patrick
I think what you have is one of the Cox product engines from one of their free flight helicopters. I've never flown one, so I am not sure about the engine run time. From what I've seen the tank is quite small so perhaps 15 seconds or so is normal. Someone on this forum will know how to connect it to an external tank, so stick around.

RE: .049 Cox Question
Yep, that run time is about right. Engine was on a free flight copter. To use the engine with another tank just pull off the white one, reall, just that easy. Then get a sullivan 2oz tank and attach the fuel line to the brass tube that the white one was on and you'll have 15min,give or take, run time per tank. Piper

:where can I ge those thanks, I need 10-15 min fly time !
Try Tower Hobbies (www.towerhobbies.com) and search for parts: LXFU34, LXFU47 or LXFU67. These are all Sullivan 2 oz tanks in various shapes and stiffness.
I have to defer to DickeyBird, Tim W. or AJC to let you know if your engine will pull fuel out of this size tank.

RE: .049 Cox Question
I would think 2 ounces is getting prretty big for a reed 049... even a 1 ounce sullivan tank looks big when its behind the engine...
Try it, it may work, but if its any distance behind the firewall, if you set the engine to run with the plane level, you might have troubes when you start climbing at any appreciaple angle, and the engine leans out. (since the tank is now below the engine quite a bit) Been there done that. It sucks!

well i run these engines all the time with 2 ounce tanks and so does two of my brothers we use mostly killer bees 0.49 we find that it realy in proves there consistant runs when you run the the air in let line in front behind the prop and put a small thunnel on it.it pressurises the tank better

RE: .049 Cox Question
Aah...this post brings back the faded childhood memory of those lazy Saturday afternoons that I spent just trying to run away from that darn cox copter after I released it. I remember preying for that motor to lean just a bit at the end of the run so it would climb away from me, lol! Piper
