RE: New Plans Posted for your Enjoyment
Great to see some of those old designs - an thanks for going to the VERY substantial effort to offer them to us!
I took a look at the Roaring 20 from 1962 MAN plans. I remember building one of these from a Top Flite kit around 1967. I used an escapement and I only remember that my plane had a sad and short life. I thought I remember that the kit had an all sheet built up wing (the MAN plans show a conventional paper or silkspan covered wing). Is that my faulty memory or does anyone else remember the kit version of this model with a sheeted wing?

RE: New Plans Posted for your Enjoyment
Thanks for the encouragement guys, if you build any of this stuff,
send an interesting picture into FM or MAN and show some of the new
ARF guys what you can do with a set of plans and some Sig balsa.
I forgot to give credit to 3 people:
The Designers of thse planes;
The folks who inked the plans;
And Gene Rock for making great digital
versions of them (he really "Rocks"! [sm=thumbup.gif] ).
I know a few of you have built Reese Littlest Sticks using the
scans or the cad file from my site, and THAT's what it's all about baby!

Dickeybird,
Yeah, it was a vicarious thrill to see your Twin Twin Lizzie in the mags, and
know you got the inspiration from plans on my site.[8D]
I have heard from a guy who is making a giant scale Lil Roughneck, which
is pretty cool too.
As for Ken's flying boats, I think he must have published about 30 of them
over the years. I have had several posted at one time or another.

Where do you guys typically get the engines for these little guys (online)? Also, all of the plans on the linked website are R/C not C/L right?

RE:Twin Lizzie
I had an article on a Twin Lizzie modified for RC with pics but no plans. I came across your site Dave, a while back and was suprized to see the little Lizzie. I downloaded the plan but I just haven't had time to build it yet, with all my other projects still inline on the table.
Thanks Dave!
Another Twin Lizzie lover.

ZZ,
Any possibility I can get a copy of the article you speak of regarding the Twin Lizzie? I have the plan as well and was getting ready to build one as an RC model. Can you add an attachment of the article on this site?
Thanks,
EGB

EGB,
Right here:

She is a cutie, ain't she? The first 2 paragraphs of that article should tell you he was a
professional writer by trade (SciFi).

RE: New Plans Posted for your Enjoyment
Hi Dave, I think EGB was wanting a link to an article for an enlarged, R/C'd version of the 'Lizzie. I used to have the magazine and I think the article was for an .09 or .15 powered version and the author was "Paul Denson" or a name like that. I remember the fellow well (just can't get his exact name to focus) 'cuz he did some REALLY nice designs for mags and (I think) for House of Balsa. Gawd it's a drag to get old!

EGB: I Googled up this: http://www.rcstore.com/rs/general/li...t=10&catego=PL Looks like I was pretty close! It's a Paul Denson plan for an r/c .15 to .25 'Lizzie. Is that it??
Somewhere in the Google list was a link to my 'ol Twin Lizzie II with 2 Coxes on it! Man, I gotta go get a new hat to fit this swelled up head!

At least you still have your memory. When I looked up your llnk, up pops Bill Northrop's Apprentice -- never built it, but have a set of plans at home -- you could buy a set of plans from MAN and get 2 others on the backside of the sheet -- 3 for 1 so to speak.
As you said, "Gawd it's a drag to get old!!", but better than the alternative I suppose.

RE: New Plans Posted for your Enjoyment
The article I have is in MAN June 1989 Small Steps. This 1/2A RC version was built by Tomas Hultgren of Sweden. It has a wing span of 31 inches, both rudders work via a concealed mechinism set up and no external push rods or control horns. That's about all the article states besides it being Keith Laumer's design. The article was written by Joe Wagner.
You can see the wing mods he made in the pic. I personally like it better that way. It makes it look like it could have been a scale model of a 1930's airplane. When I build mine I am going to build it like Tomas has.

RE: New Plans Posted for your Enjoyment
I see that some of the plans have been broken down into small printable chunks. I think Bipe came out with some kind of program to break them down, but I would like to know how you did it.
I have a lot of them to break down, if only I could get the hang of it.
Thanks for the great plans, I think it would be a great place to hang the plans of the LS150 and maybe the Halfwit, and even the 1/2A pizza box. With proper permission of course.

Mr Flyer 57,
I first printed the full plan on letter size, one sheet. Then I took it the printers to have enlarged.
You have to know what the wing span will be and calculate the percentage it needs to be enlarged. Then I have a few run off. I use one for working, one for templates and one to put away for future copies if needed.

RE: New Plans Posted for your Enjoyment
that will work, and thanks.
How true is the plan when it is finally on the board, after being shrunk to get it to fit on one sheet of paper and then resized to the full size again. Have you had much trouble getting a copy with all the lines straight?
I know the equipment is very good at the print and copy where I have my stuff done.
Also have you had any trouble with the tiled pages fitting together? I have used the method of cutting and taping the pages together to get a plan, it seemed to work pretty well, but I would like a better way. If expanding it to full size from a small plan works well, I may have a new way to get this process accomplished.
Thanks again,
MR Flyer57

You should be able to take any plan in the .pdf format to Kinko's for a full size print on their 36" wide digital printer. They charge $5.50 here for a 36" x 44" print. If you can convert a .pdf to a plot file, some blueprint shops will do it even cheaper.
