RE: Interesting coxes on the bay.
jess,
The Cox RR-1 is a great running engine. This one is alittle ruff around the edges but at it's current bid not bad!!! Very strong runners with a rear drum that is driven off the crank pin instead of a reed valve. I have one and sold another a month or so ago.
Later.

Think I'd rather buy a Fora and save the extra bucks on the fuel that it would use blowing this thing outta the water.
But then the Fora isn't a collectable.

RE: Interesting coxes on the bay.
I've just about had my fill of Coxes thanks to the new HyperViper. I'm trying to break in this motor, on a little 5x3 it is only turning 13,500 and at that it's unreliable. The plane weighs 10.6 ouncesand is going to need more thrust. I'm just too used to putting a Big Mig on and getting 18,000 at least, if not more. I am taking the engine off today and working it over, running it on the bench before I stick it back in. But if that sucker don't put out, I'm findin a way to mount a Norvel in that puppy.
10 tanks through the motor and it isn't any more reliable now than it was when I started, phewey!
You know, the only saving value I've seen on the darn things is that on my Charybdis, the Norvels just don't work because of fuel draw problems. The work fantastic holding still, but when you let the thing go to rotate they just cannot keep from going lean. Had the same problem on my 40 sized Charybdis. Had to set the engine drastically rich on the ground so that it wouldn't die at flying speed. But it was COOL!!!

RE: Interesting coxes on the bay.
The craziest thing I have seen on the Bay' is a Babe Bee overhaul kit( 5screws and 2 gaskets) went for $24.00 the other day!!! I felt like emailing the winner and asking them why they paided $20.00 extra for something you can get for $4.00!!!! I have a collection of Cox engines but I don't need to spend $24.00 just to have a overhaul kit to look at!!!

Here the bid starts in $ 30.00 for a BB and $ 35.00 - 40.00 for a TD, both used, no accessories, but the other day one guy sold a TD .051 for $ 57.00. Anyway there isn´t too much demand for the BB´s.
I´m behind this one. Would you pay $ 30.00 for it ? Does it throttle good?. Thanks. Regards

RE: Interesting coxes on the bay.
I am constantly amazed that people pay far above MSRP on auctions for items easily available at discount from Tower, Horizon and any number of other suppliers.
Barnum was obviously correct.

RE: Interesting coxes on the bay.
I did that, got in late on an auction like 1 day left it was for a Norvel .049 , rode it all the way up to $40 when someone emailed me and said it was only $37 new on shopatron, but in my haste and it was a bad picture so I didnt think about it not being rc, so I get the email, and I email the owner and asked if it was c/l or r/c and he says its c/l for which I have no use but, I dont want to mess up my ebay rating so I bought it.....Rog
