hot dawg! got my entry going
Hi, got my design contest bird going. Decided to make this one, and got build description on contest site. have pix to upload, but they didn't work. file too big for the page?
the acft is versatile, handles .049 through 15 well, but am building 1/2a version for the contest. As for eye candy, here is an 074 one with bolt on wings and herr floats!

HI WF! I bet that plane flies circles around the usual batch of "leadsleds" that I see show up at the lake! If this one lake near my house ever got dredged for wreckage, who knows how many BALSA USA NORTHSTARS would turn up.Thanks again for those ULTIMATE decals! I'm going to build a .15 sized version and they will be a nice fit.

I flew the 074 one off the water today, it worked beautiful! built the herr floats as per plans. wanted a hinged water rudder, but made it stock. here is more design pix

RE: hot dawg! got my entry going
well, the guy I built the float one for flew by inverted at 20' with his old one yesterday, and pulled up! stuffed it good. broke the nose (it was fuel soaked) but the wing is undamaged- as usual! the only time the wings break is in a midair. otherwise the sheeting gets a little boogered up where the hatch jams into it on impact! very rugged. I don't make the fuse any stronger than it is since it will start stripping gears on impact if stronger. I just hack the tail feathers and glue them on a new fuselage.
remember, I have evolved this design over a 20 year period! the main reason I did it as my contest entry is so you guys could enjoy them too. I need to complete the build today, as I need to replace the purple one that I'm currently flying; it has a couple hundred flights, has been flat spun into the ground, landed inverted at full throttle- twice- (don't listen when the club guys chant "lower!") and I snap rolled it at 10 feet the other day; only it did a snap and a half! stuffed it right in. so it is getting pretty ragged! that's why it has rubber bands holding the hatch on and stuff. but it is FUN!

got it covered. used towercoat on this one. 7 oz. at this point, will be under 16 all up. they fly fine at that weight. by the way, use #62 rubberbands if you build one. will post more when finished.

Sweet looking plane, and yes I really, really want one of those too. If you folks don't quit coming up with terrific planes, I am never going to get the contest plane done!!
Great job,

HI WF! I like the colors and the pattern on the wing, it ought to show up real well in the air. Are you saying it will be under a pound with floats? That's outstanding!
HEY MARSHALL! You've got to build the 1/2A DD before you start thinking about other planes[>:]!

mr. flyer; thanks, and build directions on the contest page; dimensions are in the first pic. I don't know how to get these big pics on the contest page, maybe someone can do it for me? simple build, great flyer.
combat pig; no, this one is just hand launch. with floats and an 074 it is about 20-21 oz; still pretty light. and this plane is great combat machine with a 4" long nose and a norvel bigmig 25; if you are ever near this area, we gotta fly a round!!
