Default .072 Norvel...can it spin a duct fan?

I was wondering if a Norvel .072 can spin a 3.5" duct fan? What do you guys think? I have a Clancy Turbo Bee that I would like to build and would like to use a duct fan for the great thrust and it just looks cool. Clancy calls fur using a cut down 8X6 prop down to like 4". If a .072 can spin that....I'm figuring it will spin a 3.5" duct fan.

Any thoughts or suggestions? What about a rear exhaust engine between .10 to .15......is there such an engine?

Nice idea. Yes there is a rear exhaust MDS 15 speed engine available.

Cheap as well. Under 50 Bucks. My local shop has one here in the Algarve,
Portugal.

Let me know and I'll give you his e-mail.

Regards, Jaime

Jaime,
I like the engine....but it is not a servo controled carb. An RC version of that type of motor is what I am looking for. I appreciate the effort.....thanks buddy.

Imsofaman,
I would stick to the cut down prop- I have tested various D.F fans and I can tell you that more blades does not equal more thrust. Thinning the cut down props blades would make a big difference, but if you try to thin the blades out be very careful- if you make them too weak and the prop comes apart if you are in it`s way and unlucky, it could easily kill you- the velocitys are very high. A better and safer approach would be to find a prop that is already thin, e.g a carbon pylon prop and shorten and balance it. That will probably produce the maximum amount of thrust for the least work and risk.

NORVEL makes the .074 but not an .072. FYI.

Take care not to overload this engine, as it can't cope with heavy loads ! Otherwise you'll end up with bent parts...

Skaliwag.....awesome links bro....thanks so much! Ok guys....I have made my decision.....I will go with the cut down prop, but as suggested by Japanman....use a pylon racing prop and balance it nice.

I really enjoy this formum so much! You ALL are great for taking the time put your two cents in.

Thanks so much!!!!!

I don't know if this would work for you (my Turbo Bee is setup with a speed 400 electric) but I changed from the APC 8x6 to a Master Airscrew 3 blade 8x6. The cut down 3 blade prop gave a lot more thrust but it might be too much of a load depending on the engine you choose...
